Because you post-not-reading motherf***ers will probably not read any of the below, let me know in the comments: What are your GAINZZZZZ? Or PLANZZZ?

What would we do without experts? Our very-smart expert class now realizes, a year after the rest of us did, that the weight gain caused by shut downs might be a dangerous side-effect.

The health of millions of Americans may have been affected by weight gain and lack of exercise during the pandemic, even if they have avoided acute dangers of Covid-19 infection, emerging evidence collected by obesity researchers -- and the anecdotal experiences of family physicians -- suggests.

"Ninety-eight per cent of my day is, 'You haven't been exercising, you've gained weight, and your diabetes is no longer controlled. We need to help you with that,'" said Dr Andrew Carroll, who is part of a multidisciplinary family medicine practice in Chandler, Arizona. "It's very rare I'm reducing medications over the last year."

In several cases, doctors said major factors in worsening health were "lifestyle" factors, such as lack of exercise, poor diet and stress. More than 60% of American family doctors saw an increase in obesity among their patients, according to a survey of 910 doctors by American Academy of Family Physicians.

Weight gain is not necessarily unhealthy in and of itself. However, excess weight is associated with a number of chronic health problems, such as increased risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and certain types of cancer. Obesity is also associated with increased risks from Covid-19.

If you're wondering why this article just claimed that obesity wasn't unhealthy "in itself," it's because this is from the very-expert Guardian, which is all aboard with the Healthy At Any Size delusion.

"The overwhelming stress of living in a pandemic time is really impacting [patients'] medical health significantly," said Carroll. Typical patients are "gaining weight on the order of 10 to 30lb," he said.

We-all gotta get some GAINZZZ, cuzzes.

A cup of strong coffee taken a half hour before exercise boosts fat burning.

Scientists from the Department of Physiology of the University of Granada (UGR) have shown that caffeine (about 3 mg/kg, the equivalent of a strong coffee) ingested half an hour before aerobic exercise significantly increases the rate of fat-burning. They also found that if the exercise is performed in the afternoon, the effects of the caffeine are more marked than in the morning.

...

"The results of our study showed that acute caffeine ingestion 30 minutes before performing an aerobic exercise test increased maximum fat oxidation during exercise regardless of the time of day," explains Francisco J. Amaro. The existence of a diurnal variation in fat oxidation during exercise was confirmed, the values being higher in the afternoon than in the morning for equal hours of fasting.

This article suggests that people can control their rate of aging (at least to a degree) by looking out for their health starting at age 45.

The findings, appearing Monday in the journal Nature Aging, suggest that identifying and treating the diseases of old age should begin by the time people celebrate their 45th birthday, before the problems escalate, degrade quality of life and impose huge personal and societal costs.

"Aging isn't something that happens suddenly when people reach their 60s, it's a lifelong process," said lead author Maxwell Elliott, a Ph.D. student in Duke's Department of Psychology & Neuroscience. "We have a way of measuring how quickly people are aging, and our findings highlight the importance of addressing biological aging in midlife while prevention is possible and before heavy organ damage has accumulated."

...

By assigning an aging rate to the study group based on the biomarkers for organ health, the researchers found that some of the 45-year-olds aged at a rate that was slower than average for their chronological age. These slow-aging participants looked younger (their faces had fewer wrinkles), they remained mentally sharp, their cardiovascular health was good and they continued to walk at a brisk pace.

On the other end of the spectrum were 45-year-olds who aged more rapidly. These people looked older, showed signs of cognitive decline as measured by IQ scores, felt less healthy and even tended to have pessimistic attitudes about aging. By midlife, people who had aged more rapidly were already at risk of developing frailties that impair physical and financial independence.

GAINZZZ = LIFE.

I'm sure everyone has heard this sixty five million times, but exercise increases blood flow to the brain, and generally improves cognitive performance.

It's all linked, of course, and probably even more closely than we yet know.

It's not just your legs and heart that get a workout when you walk briskly; exercise affects your brain as well. A new study by researchers at UT Southwestern shows that when older adults with mild memory loss followed an exercise program for a year, the blood flow to their brains increased. The results were published online today in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

"This is part of a growing body of evidence linking exercise with brain health," says study leader Rong Zhang, Ph.D., professor of neurology at UTSW. "We've shown for the first time in a randomized trial in these older adults that exercise gets more blood flowing to your brain."

Meanwhile, as if covid wasn't wreaking enough havoc on our health -- evidence mounts that covid can cause type 2 diabetes.

A team of researchers from King's College London and Monash University has created a database of information that relates COVID-19 and type II diabetes. The team has created the database for two reasons--the first is that research to date has shown people with type II diabetes are more likely to suffer severe symptoms of the disease and to die from it than the general populace. The second is because of mounting evidence suggesting that COVID-19 could actually cause people to become diabetic.

I'm going to speculate that people who are fairly unhealthy are going to the hospital for covid more than otherwise-healthy people, and there they're being diagnosed with diabetes for the first time, owing to the batteries of tests being performed on them.

In other words, my hunch is that these people were largely already diabetic or pre-diabetic but not yet diagnosed as such, until covid exposed the disease.

...

It is still not clear why people with diabetes suffer more when infected with COVID-19 or why some suffer more than others. Also unclear is whether COVID-19 can cause diabetes. Since the onset of the pandemic, doctors have been reporting patients developing diabetes soon after contracting COVID-19.

Well that seems to support my hunch.

All that weight gain from remaining in Fauci's Forever Lockdowns is sure as hell going to jack up the diabetes rate, of course.
