Quarantine Cafe: Dog Invents New Cryptocurrency, Consisting of a Leaf Edition
Cute story:
Early on in [the dog's] tenure at the school, he came to be aware of the little store on campus where students gather to buy things on their breaks; sometimes they'd buy him cookies sold there.
This, evidently, is where the dog first learned about commerce -- and decided to try it out himself.
"He would go to the store and watch the children give money and receive something in exchange," teacher Angela Garcia Bernal told The Dodo. "Then one day, spontaneous, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie."
They gave him a cookie.
So now the dog comes to the store every day, bringing them a leaf to buy a cookie.
"He comes for cookies every day," Gladys Barreto, a longtime store attendant, told The Dodo. "He always pays with a leaf. It is his daily purchase."
I know what you're thinking. This isn't a real currency. These are just "Fiat Leaves."
But for now, the closed economic system is working.
Except for the store, which loses valuable treats and accumulates nasty, dog-drool-soaked dead leaves.
Maybe we need to hire this dog to teach Alexandria Donkey-Chompers about economics.
Rescuing a stray dog and her five puppies.
Gaining the trust, and then adopting, a stray cat.
