Violent Carjackings Up 537% in Minneapolis, Ground Zero for the "Defund the Police" Movement
Huh.
I wonder how this unexpected situation might have randomly come to pass.
Over the past two months, Minneapolis police have logged more than 125 carjackings in the city, a troubling surge that authorities had largely linked to small groups of marauding teens. But an increasing number of adults have been arrested in recent weeks for the same crime.
Within a one-hour period Saturday morning, police reported three separate carjackings in southeast Minneapolis, including one where an elderly woman was struck on the head. Such attacks are up 537% this month when compared with last November.
"The numbers are staggering," said police spokesman John Elder. "It defies all civility and any shred of common human decency."
Police say suspects tend to approach victims on the street, sidewalk or parking lot -- often while they’re distracted with routine tasks. A significant number of armed stickups have targeted seniors and unaccompanied women at their vehicles on Minneapolis' South Side.
Minneapolis didn't even keep track of carjackings as a separate category until recently because the crime was so rare as to not be deserving of its own column. But now there are so many carjackings they've gone back and noted which armed robberies were in fact carjackings.
Via Hot Air. Also via Hot Air, Barack Obama finally decides to comment on the "defund the police" movement.
Can you guess what he says?
Well, he says that he thinks "defund the police" is a bad political slogan. It's bad for messaging purposes.
Not that it's a bad policy.
He suggests the left go back to using euphemisms to disguise how extremists their actual agenda is. He wants them to stop saying "defund the police" and go back to using the euphemism "police reform."
"The Squad" is disputing Obama. And I have to admit, at least they're more honest about their extremist agenda than the mercenary grifter Obama is.
