First-World Problems...Part тридесет и четири
Commenter "Joe Mannix" recently wrote about cutting the cord, and I picked his brain about some related topics. I have wanted to build a NAS unit so I can put all of my DVDs and music in one place. Because swapping a DVD in and out of a player is a stressful and difficult operation!
He gave me some excellent advice, but one thing that has so far been a failure is the transfer of DVDs to a hard drive. I have tried several programs, including one that "Joe Mannix" recommended, but none of them provide the quality that I want. My test movie was Deadpool 2, and the quality (streaming to Roku) was at best 720...nowhere near full HD.
It is possible that I simply screwed up the settings, although I tried it with a bunch of different programs, so that's probably not the problem.
I have a fast PC with a video card, so the processing power probably isn't the issue either.
Storage isn't a problem, so I don't need to compress the data. I am happy with simply copying the DVD to the hard drive and playing it that way, but I haven't found a way to do that either!
My original plan was to buy one of those massive 100 or 200 DVD changers, but they are apparently no longer in vogue!
Watching movies that are barely good enough for a 1st generation flat screen is not an acceptable alternative, and I am going to stamp my feet and hold my breath until I get my way!
