Romney a "Yes" on Confirming a Justice Before Election

This is a real surprise.

Well, not completely a surprise. Last night, Lindsey Graham announced that they had the votes and would vote to confirm a justice:

BREAKING:

According to Lindsey Graham, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee "We've got the votes to confirm Justice Ginsburg's replacement before the election. That's what's coming."

FILL. THE. SEAT.

— Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11)

Meanwhile, Trump meets with Federal Appeals Court judge Amy Coney Barrett.

Front runner status confirmed?

President Trump on Monday met with Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who sources say is the potential frontrunner to fill the vacant Supreme Court seat left following the death the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The news supported widespread speculation that emerged after Ginsburg's death. Although Trump recently released a lengthy list of potential nominees, he appeared to narrow those down over the weekend when he said he wanted a woman to fill the spot.

...

The president told "Fox & Friends" he intended on waiting until services ended for the late justice. “I think it will be on Friday or Saturday and we want to pay respect, it looks like we will have services on Thursday or Friday, as I understand it, and I think we should, with all due respect for Justice Ginsburg, wait for services to be over," he said.

The Democrats have previously suggested that believing Catholics were automatically disqualified from the Supreme Court:

...

Her faith previously caught attention as Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. suggested it might interfere with her job as a jurist. "I think whatever a religion is, it has its own dogma. The law is totally different. And I think in your case, professor, when you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you, and that’s of concern," Feinstein said during a 2017 hearing.

Newt Gingrich thinks a Barrett nomination would put Democrats in a bind: They'd be forced to admit they do favor the religious persecution of Catholics, barring them from any federal jobs where moral conscience may intrude.

Barrett is a devout Catholic, and as such, effectively dared Democrats to attack her on those grounds, specifically potential Democrat VP Kamala Harris, who has a history of anti-Catholic bias.

"If President Trump nominates Amy Coney Barrett, Notre Dame Law Professor, Appeals Court judge, mother of 7 (2 adopted from Haiti), clerk for Scalia, devout Catholic, it will pose a unique challenge for Kamala Harris -- the most anti-Catholic bigot nominated in over a century," tweeted Gingrich.

"Are Democrats prepared to say a devout Catholic is by definition unfit to serve on the Supreme Court?" he continued. "If no pro-life Justice is acceptable then no faithful Catholic, Evangelical or Orthodox Jew can be considered. Are Democrats really prepared to alienate that many Americans?"

It's not just Democrats, either. I hear that behind the scenes, the Abortion Twins, Murkowski and Collins, have been pressuring Trump to not nominate Barrett but nominate some pro-choice cipher instead.

But given that both of these Abortion Warriors have already announced that they had no intention of voting to confirm any judge, their leverage is pretty weak.

As mentioned by J.J. in the Morning Report, Matt Gaetz called the Abortion Twins out, and said that voters should vote them out of office if they continue to refuse to do their jobs.

"The argument that Democrats, socialists, and apparently Collins and Murkowski are making is somehow, in the fourth quarter of a basketball game, everyone should take a pause to determine who's going to be the coach next season," Gaetz told host Tucker Carlson.

"This actually pretty simple, Tucker," Gaetz continued. "We, the Republicans, have the power and we ought to use it. Is there any doubt if Democrats and socialists and the woke-topians controlled the presidency and the Senate what they would do? They would be forcing us to accept some blue-haired genderless warlord from the CHAZ to be the next Supreme Court justice, but here we have Murkowski and Collins rejecting the duties that they have as senators.

"And if they do that," Gaetz went on, "their voters should reject them. Trump supporters should not be taken for granted in Maine, Alaska or anywhere else, and if they are unwilling to do their job and take a vote on who the president nominates, they should not have the privilege of continuing to serve in the Senate."

Absolutely! Well said.

Collins is seeking a fifth term this November and polls show her locked in a tight race against Democrat Sara Gideon. Murkowski is not up for reelection until 2022, but Trump has vowed to campaign against her whether or not he is in the White House.

That is baller. We've been talking about the need for something like that for years, and Trump says he'll actually do it.

It's not that hard to satisfy GOP voters -- it's just that the GOP doesn't want to do it 90% of the time.

Speaking of that: Gaetz then went after... Mitch McConnell.

Gaetz added that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., "views his entire legacy as the Senate leader as tied to the judiciary ... if he is unable to deliver this result for the president, one has to ask, 'What is the utility of Mitch McConnell?' I mean, we put up with the things about Mitch McConnell we don't like -- like his unwillingness to fight for the wall, his willingness to improverish towns in America with these trade deals for global organizations -- and we do it all because he is supposed to be a stud on judges."

Wow. If he weren't wrong on the issues of the environmental nonsense and Katie Hill's nasty snizz, he'd be a contender for president.

Meanwhile, Trump picked up support for a new Justice from an unexpected source: Amy Klobuchar.

She didn't intend the message that she wound up sending. But we'll take it.
