Federal Judge Orders Michael Cohen Released from Jail and Back Into Home Confinement

If I'm understanding this right: Cohen's agreement with prosecutors forbade him from talking to certain people. I think the ban might have had to do with "profiting from his actions," or something.

Cohen was "caught" talking to people about a book he wants to publish.

And then a judge ordered him returned to jail, citing that as a violation of his agreement with the government.

But now a federal judge says that that agreement had the fundamental purpose of trying to limit Cohen's free speech rights and so that agreement was never enforceable and should not have been used as justification for ordering him back to prison.

"That's my finding," Judge Hellerstein says, after adding that he cannot fairly find it was not intended to interfere with those rights.

The judge is now asking the parties what the relief should follow that finding.
