NPR Radio Ratings Collapse As Pandemic Ends Listeners’ Commutes

Here’s something that you just hate to hear - America’s premier and most pretentious left-wing news outlet is facing a ratings collapse due to the Wuhan Virus.

Broadcast ratings for nearly all of NPR's radio shows took a steep dive in major markets this spring, as the coronavirus pandemic kept many Americans from commuting to work and school. The network's shows lost roughly a quarter of their audience between the second quarter of 2019 and the same months in 2020.

So people obeying the media hysteria to stay home are negatively affecting NPR. That’s a sad development.

Revenue from podcasting will likely be slightly greater than last year's earnings. Yet that growth will not make up for the projected $23 million drop in total sponsorship this year, driven by losses on the radio side

Wow. With its revenue collapsing, I bet that NPR is eager to end the shutdown so they can get their captive audience back.

NPR's research revealed recommencing commutes would boost back audience the most.

Just kidding. NPR is just like all the left-wing media. They are on Team Shutdown because their tribe is Team Shutdown. The executives who run NPR would rather sacrifice revenue and listeners than be on the wrong side of their political-media tribe.

Strangely enough, without any sports going on, sports talk radio ratings are also plunging.

The full effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on local sports radio hit home on Tuesday with the release of the quarterly spring ratings. To no one’s surprise, numbers were down across the board, given the lack of sports this spring and the fact fewer people were commuting to work and listening in their cars

As Clay Travis often discusses on his website and radio show (“Outkick The Coverage”), sports talk radio personalities have almost universally joined the Permanent Shutdown mob. They are so wrapped up with staying faithful to the left-wing media tribe that they genuinely don’t understand that they won’t have a job for very long without sports to talk about. Or listeners to talk to.

Well at least newspapers are… well… they’re committing suicide too.

Coronavirus Rips A Hole In Newspapers’ Business Model

At least 38,000 news company workers from journalists to commercial staff have been furloughed, laid off or taken pay cuts in the US since March, according to FT estimates.

If you read your local paper you will likely find that it is entirely focused on Covid fear-porn, shaming of people who are not staying home, and outrage at businesses and churches that have not permanently shut down. If there were any adults still in the newspaper business, they would understand that the children writing for the papers are actually targeting their own subscribers and advertisers.

A lot of us on the right have wished we could inflict a crushing defeat on our media adversaries. Instead, at this point all we have is stand back and watch. Much of the media is self-inflicting their own demise.
