The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
At the risk of disappointing the burning hair brigade, I simply don't have much of a rant in me. Dinner last night was a repurposing of my mediocre pork dry rub as a fish rub, and a version of a "Cocktail a la Philly" I had this week in...um...Philly. Both were grand, and in the grand scheme of things were more important than the temporary but painful dislocations in the stock market and the country in general.
We will survive this, and based on the rapidly changing statistics describing the Wuhan Flu, it is probably going to turn out to be similar to a bad flu season, but with less total exposure and therefore far fewer deaths. Just look up "Hasty generalization," or "Fallacy of insufficient sample," or "Law of small numbers." They are all pretty much the same thing, and simply put; statistics based on small sample sizes are inherently less accurate than when the sample sizes increase.
Here is a mildly amusing essay that seems to put everything in a bit better perspective.
The Apocalyptic Sneeze
As a great barman once said: You can only be a snob in matters of alcohol.
And if Aristotle maintained that living well is better than living, I say that drinking well is better than drinking. Especially when the apocalypse is presented in the form of a sneeze.
COVID-19 isn't Small Pox, it isn't Cholera, it isn't Malaria...all of which killed millions. We will weather this storm, and hopefully the experience will further expose the Media and our typical politicians for the venal, corrupt hacks they are.
And like the good soldiers in the conservative army, we should fight back. For instance:
In case anyone is still wondering why Trump did a travel ban in Europe, Fauci just told Congress that the majority of new infections we are seeing are coming from Europe not China.

Shove that down the throats of any who whine and bitch about President Trump's actions.
