Saturday Afternoon Chess Thread 03-07-2020

Moviegique will be along later with the movie thread. As always, the chess/dress pr0n thread is an open thread, so there is no such thing as an off-topic comment.
Beginner Problem - White To Play (Chess 2052)
Goal: Forced mate in 2
Hint: The first move is not a check
(I think this one is a bit more difficult than the beginner problems I usually put up. Most of you are getting the beginner problems pretty fast, anyway, so it's time to stretch your brains a bit)

This Did Not End Well:
Intermediate Problem - Black To Play (1111)
Goal: Black can force mate in 5 moves
Hint: Black's rook on f8 must be brought into play

Advanced Problem - White To Play (1112)

Beginner Problem - White To Play

White can force mate in two moves. The trick is to limit Black's moves
1.Rd7!
Black now has no legal moves for his king. And his knight can only go to one of two squares: b6 or c7.
If 1...Nc7 then 2.Rd6#
or if 1...Nb6 then 2.Rc5#.
Intermediate Problem - Black To Play
1r3rk1/1p6/p2P3p/P3p3/5np1/2BPPp1q/R6P/1Q1B1RK1 b - - 0 1
1...f2+! 2.Rfxf2
Not 2.Kh1?? Qxf1# (or 2.Kxf2 Nxd3+ 3.Ke2 (3.Kg1 Qxf1#) 3...Qxf1+ 4.Kd2 Rf2+ 5.Be2 Qxe2#)
2...Qg2+
3.Rxg2 Nh3+
4.Kh1 Rf1+
5.Rg1 Rxg1#
Advanced Problem - White To Play
r1b1kb1r/1q1n1p2/2Np4/1p1Np1pp/5P2/7Q/PPP3PP/2KRR3 w kq - 0 1
Answer:
1.Rxe5+ Be7
If 1...Nxe5?? then 2.Nf6# or 1...dxe5? 2.Nf6+ Nxf6 3.Rd8#
2.Rxe7+ Kf8
3.Qf5 Ne5
4.Qf6 Nd3+ (4... Rh7 5. Re8+ Kxe8 6. Qd8#)
4...Nd3+ is a useless check only a machine would play, just because the losing path is longer. It accomplishes precisely nothing.
5.Rxd3 Rh7
6.Re8+ Kxe8
7.Qd8# 1-0
Hope to see you all next week!

Note: that cryptic line of letters and numbers you see underneath each board diagram is a representation of the position in what is known as "Forsyth-Edwards Notation", or F.E.N. It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and paste it into your chess app.
