Washington State Announces Six Coronavirus Deaths

First one. Then a second yesterday. Now six.

The state now says that coronavirus might have been spreading "for weeks."

The best example of this was the decision to fly back infected American passengers from the Diamond Princess. This fateful decision helped spread the virus inside the United States.

President Trump had been told that nobody with the coronavirus would be flown to America.

The State Department decided to do it anyway without telling him and only made the announcement shortly after the planes landed in the United States.

According to the Washington Post, as unfriendly an outlet to the administration as there is, "Trump has since had several calls with top White House officials to say he should have been told, that it should have been his decision and that he did not agree with the decision that was made."

In Iran, coronavirus has killed an aide to the "supreme leader."

An adviser to Iran’s ruler Ayatollah Khamenei has died of coronavirus, according to Iranian state media. The deceased is Mohammad Mirmohammadi, age 71. He was a member of the Expediency Discernment Council (quite a name if the translation is accurate), which advises the Ayatollah and settles disputes with parliament.

Other high-ranking Iranians reportedly have contracted the disease. They include vice president Masoumeh Ebtekar, better known as Sister Mary, the spokeswoman for the US Embassy hostage takers in 1979 and deputy health minister Iraj Harirchi. He heads a task force on the coronavirus and had tried to downplay the epidemic.

Iranian FM Zarif and his entourage were likely COVID-19 carriers at the Munich Security Conference. The Democrat party senator who met with him for over an hour in Zarif's hotel room must be watched for signs of disease.

Despite the media's and the Democrats' and NeverTrump's shrieking (but I repeat myself thrice), Trump did in fact take dramatic action to slow the spread of the disease -- as the World Health Organization concedes.

Republican Senator Tom Cotton said on Friday that “The single most consequential and valuable thing done to stop this virus from already spreading throughout the United States was when President Trump decided to shut down travel to China last month." He also acknowledged that "the so-called experts who opposed the decision at the time" eventually admitted that it "bought valuable time to prevent the spread of this virus in the United States."

He's absolutely right. The World Health Organization admits the strategy helped saved lives.

The head of the W.H.O. team that visited China said this week that China "took one of the most ancient strategies and rolled out one of the most ambitious, agile and aggressive disease-containment efforts in history."

The W.H.O.'s epidemic-modeling teams concluded that travel restrictions had slowed the spread of the virus outside China by two to three weeks.

For the United States, the delay was probably far greater. Air-traffic data shows that flights from China to the United States dropped much more than they did to Europe.

The media is now shrieking that Trump is lying when he says the media has been trying to politicize a Chinese virus.
