The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

Totalitarianism in all forms is an inherent evil because it destroys free will, liberty, and freedom. Any justification of totalitarianism, in particular the temporary kind is internally inconsistent because the history of man is riddled with examples of the temporary becoming the permanent.

But there is a difference between the Right's version...think Pinochet or Franco, and the Left's version...think Lenin or Mao or Stalin or Maduro.

Lenin did more than anyone else to shape the last hundred years. He invented a form of government we have come to call totalitarian, which rejected in principle the idea of any private sphere outside of state control. To establish this power, he invented the one-party state, a term that would previously have seemed self-contradictory since a party was, by definition, a part. An admirer of the French Jacobins, Lenin believed that state power had to be based on sheer terror, and so he also created the terrorist state.

Stephen Pinker has recently argued that the world has been getting less bloodthirsty. The Mongols, after all, destroyed entire cities. But the Mongols murdered other people; what is new, and uniquely horrible about the Soviets and their successors, is that they directed their fury at their own people. The Russian empire lost more people in World War I than any other country, but still more died under Lenin. His war against the peasants, for instance, took more lives than combat between Reds and Whites.

Bernie Sanders, the crazy old uncle who nobody takes seriously is of the same ilk as Stalin. The friendly gay man from South Bend is just a Beria with a nicely tailored jacket. And the hectoring busybody from the Bay State who looks like your middle school librarian is just as evil as the worst of the interrogators in the bowels of Lubyanka in the 1930s...

Socialism with a pretty face in the form of free tuition and medical care is functionally identical to Maoist insanity or the dark days of the Holodomor. It is control...total and complete authority over every aspect of our being, and it must be rejected.

If you think I am being histrionic, read the article. It exposes the mindset of the man most responsible for our current tousles with socialism, and Sanders and Buttgag and the rest of the crypto-socialists running for president can trace their political philosophy to Vladimir Lenin. And while he may not have been the Devil, he was fast friends with him.
