Bob Dole: That Was One of the Best SOTU Addresses Bob Dole Has Ever Heard
Before getting to that, let's check in with Bob Dole:
Senator Bob Dole
@SenatorDole
@POTUS
really hit a home run last night. In my 36+ years serving in Congress, I heard quite a few #SOTU addresses. This was one of the best.
Corrected: I had linked a poll about the State of the Union, showing that 76% of viewers approved.
But that was from last year's SOTU. So I've deleted it.
Thanks to Broseiden for checking the dates. (I was told there would be no math on this blog.)
In anticipation of the "Great Speech" vs. "Great Facts" question, note that yesterday, it was reported that a huge number of jobs were created in January.
Not "saved or created."
Not "saved or created or funded."
Just created.
The jobs market kicked off 2020 in grand fashion, adding 291,000 in private payrolls for the best monthly gain since May 2015, according to a report Wednesday from ADP and Moody’s Analytics.
That was well above the 150,000 estimate from economists surveyed by Dow Jones and more evidence that the U.S. still is a good distance from full employment even with the jobless rate at its lowest point in more than 50 years. The total also was a sharp gain from the 199,000 in December, which was revised down 3,000 from the initial count.
Disaster: I had to delete most of this post. I went to the White House site for the SOTU -- here. The first entry was about last night's address.
But when I clicked the link for the text, I didn't notice -- the text was from the 2019 speech.
Now I know why my memory of what Trump said last night didn't quite match up with the text of the speech.
I will try to rewrite and salvage this post tomorrow.
Thanks to "the dandy" for seeing that -- he just noticed the economic numbers weren't quite right.
