Meet Two Pioneers In the Exciting Academic World of "Fat Acceptance" Propaganda
Plus, GAINZZZ Thread
Can I just say, not all heroes wear capes?
It's one thing to offer a bit of emotional solace to overweight people.
It's another thing to evangelize for obesity as a "healthy" alternative to not being obese.
Meet the two professors leading the way in 'fat studies'
Two professors at a midwestern university are working to develop and legitimize the field of "fat studies," a discipline that examines the cultural and sociological phenomenon of overweight and obese human beings.
Laurie Cooper Stoll, a professor of sociology, and Darci Thoune, an associate professor of English, are both leading scholarly research in this field from the University of Wisconsin -- La Crosse. Their website, "Two Fat Professors," declares that the academics are "fighting fatphobia with education, community-building and a lot of sass."
I totally think that a woman extolling the virtues of excess fat (and getting high on her own supply, if you catch me) should be a "superfit hero trainer" at a YMCA.
Laurie teaches Zumba® Gold classes at the YMCA in La Crosse and Onalaska, Wisconsin. The main goal in her classes is to have fun and celebrate our bodies!
Well, that sounds like a very rigorous plan for staying fit.
You can follow her choreography or dance to the beat of your own drum. She promises never to engage in diet talk, negative fat talk, or body shaming during class (nor in her everyday life).
A trainer should never, ever discuss a healthy diet, a healthy weight, or how to lose weight.
I wonder what other "studies" she specializes in?
Dr. Laurie is also a Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
You don't say.
She earned her Ph.D. and graduate concentration in Women's and Gender Studies...
You don't say.
You don't say, you don't say, you don't say.
And you should check out the picture at the link, if your curious to have your inklings confirmed.
Darci Thorne is here, and is surprisingly slender.
Just kidding, obviously.
Her twitter bio describes her as, "Queer-mo academic with way leftist leanings who likes to eat."
You don't say, you don't say, you really honestly did not have to say.
So, what are your GAINZZZ?
I have no GAINZZZ myself. I did a five day fast a week ago, but other than that, I just followed the Two Fat Professors' plan and just have done no exercise for months and just kinda ate whatever. I kept my weight fairly stable (I even hit a new low on September 11) for a while, but then, come Thanksgiving, I just blew everything off and gained about ten pounds in six weeks.
The fast took off about three of those pounds.
What about you? Any goals? Any resolutions?
