Gun Thread: Sunday Before Christmas Edition [Weasel]

santa pic scaled.jpg

Well Santa sure seems to be jolly, now doesn't he? A MAC-10 in one hand, and a short list of boys and girls who will have one waiting under the tree Christmas morning, in the other! Let's find out below what you are wishing for on Christmas, shall we?

Programming Note: I will be checking in periodically tonight. Please remember, no fighting in the Gun Thread!

So who here is giving or receiving guns or shooting related gifts this year? Who is hoping Santa will bring them something special?? Aside from the ridiculously rare and expensive, if you had a single wish, what would you like Santa to leave you under the tree?

Well speaking of gifts, I know that our pal FloridaBill is already a happy camper!

I have THE BEST FATHER! He knew I had been saving up to get one and he got it for me! How, I have no clue, several Sig dealers here in Florida are still waiting. Proof that MIRACLES do happen!

A Sig Sauer P365 SAS, or Sig Anti-Snag. Everything has been rounded, or flush mounted, or REMOVED, as in no post and groove sights! Instead, an FT Bullseye fiber tritium sight, integrated into the slide. Also, note they ported the barrel which I'm guessing reduced the muzzle flip 20 to 25%!!!

The sights are going to take some getting used to, especially in low light. But at 25', first six shots, I wasn't too displeased.

Congratulations, FloridaBill! A lot of people seem to be getting a P365 this year, please let us know how you like it!

And speaking of giving, Lurker'ette JaneH sends us the following:

Received this email from one of my favorite barrel companies White Oak Armament. Pretty cool, instead of free shipping over the holidays they are taking all the shipping charges their customers pay and sending it to the organization in Virginia which is leading the charge against the anti-gun bills. Nice touch to support the cause and get their customers involved.

Thanks Lurker'ette JaneH! Yep that's right, in addition to a nice discount on barrels and uppers, all of the collected shipping charges going to support the VCDL in Virginia. White Oak Armament and their sister company, White Oak Precision, have been offering very high quality components for years. JaneH and Weasel approved!

And speaking of Virginia...

Virginia Sanctuary Update - 85 Counties, 9 Cities and 17 Towns
The 2nd Amendment Sanctuary movement continues apace, led by the remarkable efforts of the Virginia Citizens Defense League and gun owners across the Commonwealth.

So an obvious question would be where has the NRA been on this issue? Well I'm glad you asked. A quick check of the NRA-ILA webpage shows us:

Article 1: Northam Gun Ban is Unconstitutional
Article 2: Northam Seeks Confiscation
Article 3: Legislators Introduce Confiscatory Gun Ban

Well will you lookie there! One whole article briefly refers to "city and county meetings across the Old Dominion" and that's it. As of this writing, not one word about the 2nd Amendment Sanctuary news or the hard work being done by the VCDL. I have been a Life Member of the NRA for many years, and I damn sure know they have my contact information. The VCDL has been emailing me daily with reports and updates. Crickets from the NRA, who seems to have written a few articles, and that's about it. This is the kind of pathetic and weak effort crap that pisses me off, and I've just about lost any respect I once had for the NRA, and more importantly any intention I have of supporting them financially. How is this different than the otherwise ambivalent politician who only starts beating the gun rights drum before election day? Am I missing something? Wouldn't it be nice to hear the NRA was actively supporting the VCDL? And if they are, why aren't they talking about it, loudly? Think about this when deciding how to spend your money for membership dues.

Moving along...

The VCDL is planning a Lobby Day in Richmond on January 20th, and a very large turnout is expected. Given all that has happened recently; the Democrats flipping the state legislature, and the declaration of sanctuaries by local governments, you can be certain both sides of the issue will be well represented. In anticipation of large numbers of people with opposing views being in such close proximity, the VCDL released a statement which is partially excerpted below:

Monday, January 20, is VCDL's Lobby Day. It is not VCDL's Protest Day.

There is a distinct difference between the two.

Lobby Day is about, well, lobbying - sending a message to the General Assembly and to the Governor, Attorney General, and the Lt. Governor. That message is simple: no more gun control that in any way, shape, or form negatively affects law-abiding gun owners. Bills that go after criminals or bills that are beneficial to gun owners are fine.

While there have been some verbal threats by the Democrat leadership to push major gun control down the throats of Virginia's gun owners and some very bad bills already filed to back up that threat, NOTHING has happened yet and won't until after January 8. And perhaps it won't happen at all, if we press hard enough.

The sanctuary movement, with its absolutely massive turnouts of gun owners, is sending a deafening message to lawmakers ahead of Lobby Day. On top of that, we now believe the size of the crowd on Lobby Day could be absolutely incredible, possibly historic, if gun owners from around the state follow through and attend as we believe they will. You will absolutely want to be a part of this!

And there's more to the message...

VCDL Lobby Day is a peaceful event about gun rights and NOTHING ELSE.

We are NOT there to have arguments with the other side. They lobby, we lobby, and never the two shall meet. Just ignore them.

And we are not there to push any other agenda. Our total focus is on protecting our right to keep and bear arms. Period. This is not about flags, statues, history, etc. Just guns.

If you somehow find yourself being harassed by the other side, don't engage them. They could well be baiting you and recording what you do for propaganda purposes. If necessary, go find a police officer and let them take care of the person causing the disturbance. Otherwise, just ignore them and go about your business.

VCDL has a great relationship with the Capitol Police, the Richmond Police, the Virginia State Police, and most other law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth. We welcome their presence and are glad they are there to keep everything peaceful, while we work on the job at hand.

This should be a great event, with freedom-loving Americans from all walks of life standing shoulder-to-shoulder to protect our most precious civil right - the right of self-defense. See you there!

Read the full VCDL Statement on Lobby Day
which contains important information for those planning to attend, including concealed carry laws and the participation of militia groups. That's right, I said militia groups. At lease one Virginia county, Tazewell, has taken the additional step of authorizing a county militia as allowed under Article I, Section 13, of the Constitution of Virginia, as amended, and codified in Virginia law § 44-1. I have no idea which militia group(s) the VCDL is referring to, but yes, we've reached that point.

So big picture, what's your take on pro-gun rallies in general and this one in particular? Do you think the important benefit of a great Virginia Lobby Day turnout outweighs the risk that an incident of any sort will be used to discredit and impugn the pro-gun lobby? Given the solidarity of the 2nd Amendment Sanctuary movement to-date, does the rally simply represent an unnecessary opportunity for the left to shape and control the narrative? I cannot imagine either side backing down at this point and tensions will be running very, very high.

A showdown has been coming for a long time, and this could very well be it. I do not mean just for Virginia either, but for the cause of gun rights everywhere. All eyes are on Virginia, and what happens here could very likely decide the direction of the rest of the country on this issue for some time to come. Governor Retard has run his mouth and backed himself into a corner which he isn't going to get out of without disenfranchising at least half the Commonwealth, as well as significant sociopolitical forces across the country.

I truly hope all those attending the rally heed the caution contained in the VCDL message, look out for those wanting to make trouble, and make this a peaceful demonstration of support for our 2nd Amendment rights.

Stay tuned...

Our pal and pseudo-lurker FungusBoy sends us the following:

Remember a couple or three months back a young woman in CO confronted Beto O'Rourke at a campaign rally after he had said "Hell Yes, I'm going to take your guns" and told him "Hell no, you're not going to take my guns!"? She is a young wife and mom, owner/operator of Shooter's Grill Restaurant in (of all places) Rifle, CO, where waitresses open-carry on the job.

Well, she has launched a campaign for Congress to primary challenge Scott Tipton in CO HD 3. She is well-spoken and firm in her beliefs in the right to protect herself and her family. On the downside she is young, with no prior political experience, and not a CO Republican party insider. She has explicitly called out "The Squad". Some have tried to call her "the conservative AOC", an appellation I don't think is apt at all. Tipton has been fairly solid as a Trump supporter and is a multi-term incumbent, though incredibly bland.

Lauren Boebert, owner of Shooters Grill in Rifle, launches conservative primary challenge to Republican Scott Tipton

Thanks FungusBoy! All too often I think we develop such fixation with respect to horrible liberal opposition candidates that we fail to pay much attention to the just "so-so" Republican incumbents already in place. Simply because they're not openly and actively against what we consider important, doesn't mean they're doing a good job. Look at an incumbent's record and judge them critically. Are they inspiring, or are they simply part of Big Politics? If we are to have any hope at all it rests with representatives, not politicians, who are unconventional in their approach and who are looking after you first and foremost. Jeb Bush claimed to be a Republican, and compare and contrast Low Energy Jeb with President Trump (PBUH). 'Nuf said.

And finally...

From the WeaselFamily to you and yours, wishing each and every one of you a Merry Christmas!
