#Woke Terminator Soyquel Bombs; May Lose Studio $120 Million

This is the woke second reboot of the Terminator franchise in four years.

Terminator Genysys, aka Terminator 5, was also supposed to reboot the series, but that failed, so they're doing a do-over reboot -- a remake of the reboot, just four years later.

But the Herminator, Woke Fate, has bombed spectacularly, with less than $29 million of takings in North America in its first weekend.

According to a new report, Skydance Media, Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox stand to lose around $120 million in total, given the long-term prospects of Terminator: Dark Fate bombing at the box office. The movie, directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool) and produced by franchise creator James Cameron, made just $29 million in its domestic debut, which was far below industry estimates, which had it taking in around $40 million. Even that number wasn't great, but it gave Sarah Connor and the gang a fighting chance.

The biggest issue here is that the movie is said to have cost $185 million to produce, with each of the aforementioned companies putting up 30 percent of the budget. It's also worth mentioning that figure doesn't account for marketing, which estimates peg at $100 million.

They also sold off foreign box office to Disney/Fox -- not that that is a big deal, because the movie is bombing overseas, too. China is less interested in the LGBT-1000 than they were in Terminator Genysys.

Skydance, Paramount and Fox/Disney's Terminator: Dark Fate made its high-stakes debut in China over the weekend -- and the results were arguably even more disappointing than the movie's disastrous U.S. opening.

The pricey tentpole, which marked the return of franchise creator James Cameron as a producer, opened to just $28 million in China, losing badly to holdover local drama Better Days, which earned $42.6 million, according to Asia box office tracker Artisan Gateway.

Dark Fate's soft start in China is especially ominous news for the film's producers given that the preceding film in the Terminator franchise, 2015's Terminator: Genisys, totaled a hefty $113 million there. Those strong China results -- which were significantly better than its North American total of $89.7 million -- helped rescue Genisys from box office disaster.

China does not like what they call baizuo, "the white left" -- what we call identity-politics obsessed SJWs.

A communist country may be more important in teaching our own leftwing media to stop with the endless identity-politics lectures.

This might be the final wake-up alarm that alerts Hollywood to the notion of Get Woke, Go Broke. They've had ten alarms already, but they kept hitting snooze. This one will finally get their attention, I think.

It might also be the end of "dark marketing," which is a term some give to the practice of trying to gin up controversy -- and get #Woke movie reviewers and "journalists" to write clickbait articles in your favor -- by choosing sides in the Civil War 2.0.

Director Tim Miller and his financiers realized, I'm sure, they had a bomb on their hands, and thus Miller was sent out to recruit the super-important #Woke movie reviewers to campaign for Herminator -- trying to get some buzz from The Mary Sue that worked so well for Lady Ghostbusters.

"If you're at all enlightened, [the LGBT-1000 will] play like gangbusters. If you're a closet misogynist, she’ll scare the fuck out of you, because she’s tough and strong but very feminine," Miller said. "We did not trade certain gender traits for others; she's just very strong, and that frightens some dudes. You can see online the responses to some of the early shit that’s out there, trolls on the internet. I don't give a fuck."

That sort of deliberate courting of controversy may work with a very very low-budget horror movie, where controversy substitutes for any kind of advertising budget, but it doesn't work for movies that cost almost $200 million and need to make $470 million just to break even. You cannot alienate most of your audience in the hopes that women and femmy guys will flock to an action movie just to support the political team.

Especially since most action movies are now woke feminist bullshit -- it's not even a novelty any more. So why would people who fundamentally don't like action movies and never have liked action movies turn out in force for the twentieth Now It's a Strong Empowered Woman remake/reboot in the past 10 years?

You know what would subvert expectations? An action movie in which the main character was a guy, which was made for guys, and not to lecture guys.

People would be shocked by such a thing.

But instead, one stunning and brave soyquel after another.
