Wow: According to Battleground Poll, 67% of Americans Think America Is on the Edge of a Civil War

Um, that's... correct.

I'm just astonished that so many people have a grasp on this reality.

I've mentioned this before, but a quick shorthand I use (borrowed from someone else) when evaluating people is if they Know What Time It Is, or if they Don't Know What Time It Is.

The pablum issuing from NeverTrumpers and Neocons is just creating a pleasant illusion in which it's 2003 forever and the only thing that should really matter is whether we are "consistent" on Trump and Clinton, preferring that political Neverland to the actual America we find ourselves in in 2019, pretending away unpalatable truths in favor of pleasant fantasies, continuing to pretend that everything's great (and that which is not great can just be saved by another round of tax cuts and trade deals), and that the left isn't scary at all -- that's just Evil Trump trying to convince you that they're really serious about their openly announced plans to seize America's guns and force churches to perform gay marriages, or go to prison.

They're not serious about that! That's just some heated political rhetoric.

NeverTrump is pretty sure that the left is quite sensible, really, when you get past their bluster, rather like that misunderstood fellow in Berlin, Mr. Hitler.

As the Veteran said of the Humungous, "The left are reasonable men. They can be bargained with."

Spoiler alert: The Humungous is not reasonable and cannot be bargained with.

So they don't know what time it is.

The time is close enough to midnight that we're well past the Twitter drama, political trivia, and effeminate lady-times bullshit they're always wetting themselves over.

This isn't a war for Syria or Kurdistan or the other places they want to send other people to fight for; this is a war for America.

You know my biggest reason for departing from the Neocon war adventurism model?

What fucking sense does it make security freedom in some other country when it is currently under deadly assault here, and most of our supposed leaders are busy babbling babytalk and telling us everything is swell and going according to plan?

Sorry, I'm going to need to shore up the homeland defenses before supporting another foreign adventure. Is that too inconvenient for you guys?

What a lot of us see is an unrestrainedly aggressive and violent and expansionist left -- a growing American Soviet -- and a political "leadership" class whose first, second, and last instinct is figure out a way to appease the left's aggression and learn to live with their increasing number of Jim Crow laws.

They always seem to be trying to figure out how they can accommodate themselves with the left's increasingly totalitarian ambitions, and how they can position themselves to do well under such a system.

They do not seem to spend much time actually opposing it, nor to thinking of how other Americans, perhaps not so comfortable with urban liberalism as they themselves are, will fare under the Brave New World the left is imposing.

Meanwhile, they stand on the throat of actual conservatives who want to roll back the left and shout, "STOP!"

Stop all your vulgar opposition to what we have agreed with our fellow liberals can have if they give us a couple of small things which we want (but you either are indifferent about or do not want at all).

If these guys were actually Reganites as they claim -- spoiler: they're not Reaganites, they're the effminate, effete liberals who worked to keep Reagan from being conservative; they're Bush (the elder) disciples -- they would remember Reagan's position on an aggressive, expansionist Soviet Empire taking over more and more of the world:

"We win, they lose. How's that for detente?"

Confrontation, not accommodation.

That's what they urge in every theater of conflict except in America, where they call only for civility and negotiating terms of surrender with the left which will guarantee them at least 100 highly paid contributor gigs in the leftwing media to pretend to represent the "conservative" position.

They're willing to fight for Americanism (at least their decadent, soft-handed version of it) in all theaters of war except the war in the homeland, the only war that ever matters or will ever matter.

But whatever guys, Corporations Are People Too and The Best People In the World.

Here's the very liberal Washington Examiner noting this sad poll:

Partisan political division and the resulting incivility has reached a low in America, with 67% believing that the nation is nearing civil war, according to a new national survey.

"The majority of Americans believe that we are two-thirds of the way to being on the edge of civil war. That to me is a very pessimistic place," said Mo Elleithee, the executive director of Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service.

No, the fact that we're on the edge of a civil war is alarming.

The fact that 67% of Americans recognize that is actually good news.
