Solutions Update
Beginner Problem - White To Play
6R1/2r4p/p5pk/1p3pn1/2qN1PP1/P1P5/1P5P/2KR4 w - - 0 1
1.Nxf5+ gxf5
2.fxg5#
Intermediate Problem - White To Play
R7/1r3Npk/4Bb2/6p1/PP6/2nK4/8/8 w - - 0 1
1.Rh8+ Kg6
2.Nd6 g4
Forced. White was threatening Bf5# and Black's king needs a flight square. In which case he doesn't have time to save the rook. So:
3.Nxb7 and White should win.
Instead of 2...g4, 'Off the reservation' found 2...Be5 or 2...Be7 to avoid mate, but Black will still lose the rook.
Advanced Problem - Black To Play
5r1k/p3n1pp/1p6/1PP2p2/P2Pn3/3b1Bb1/1B4P1/R1R4K b - - 0 1
1...Rf6 2.Bxe4
Pretty much forced. Black was threatening 2...Rh6+ 3.Kg1 Bf2#. But he can't avoid mate:
2...Bf2
Black is now threatening mate on h6.
3.Bxf5
If now 3...Rh6+, then 4.Bh3.
3...Nxf5
4.g3 Be4+
5.Kh2 Rh6#
So White has a forced mate in 5.
Hope to see you all next week!

Note: that cryptic line of letters and numbers you see underneath each board diagram is a representation of the position in what is known as "Forsyth-Edwards Notation", or F.E.N. It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and paste it into your chess app.
