The results will be the same: abject poverty for the many, despair, an out-of-control police state, rigid adherence to the orthodoxy on pain of punishment, and all the rest of the joys of socialism that we who pay attention know so well.
But commenter "Cumberland Astro" asked about a possible
...exposition on how the modern left differs from our old nemesis, communism.
So what is the difference between our current crop of deluded, power-hungry fascists and the Communist Party and nomenklatura of the old Soviet Union?
I think it is simple: World socialism was an ephemeral goal, never to be reached because of the nature of man, be he Soviet or Chinese or Cuban...there is a powerful connection to the soil and the people of one's country. And that extended even into the highest reaches of the communist hierarchy. The Russian and Chinese and Cuban people may hate their governments (past and current), but many, perhaps most would close ranks and protect the motherland.
But our iteration carefully and forcefully rejects that connection, in part because the tool of foreign invasion (see: Southern border) is too powerful to reject. Those Antifa scum who riot at the drop of a hat hate America because of its political and social structure, but they also hate the idea of America and Americans, and that is a departure from previous forms of socialism.
Maybe old Bill Yeats was correct...
The darkness drops again but now I know That twenty centuries of stony sleep Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle, And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
