Tariffs Are A Legitimate And Effective Tool In American Foreign Policy

A strict economic analysis of tariffs will always put them in a bad light, because after all, they are designed to distort trade. But tariffs are a powerful tool in the foreign policy arsenal, and they stop short of war, which, I am sure, disappoints the Never-Trumper neo-cons who never met a diplomatic issue that didn't require dead American soldiers.

Negotiations between Beijing and President Donald Trump’s administration took a turn for the worse in early May with the increase of tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods exported to the U.S., and an effective ban on American companies doing business with Chinese telecom giant Huawei.

And the stuff about Huawei is just silly. They are the de facto electronic spying division for the Chinese government and military. President Trump is acting as a prudent commander in chief by restricting their products, and he should be praised for taking seriously the security of the United States.
