Open Thread, Plus: Game of Thrones is a Trash-Fire and Not Even the Shill Media Can White-Knight For It Any More
Question: Which TV Series Ended the Worst?

Below, Pitch Meeting guy mocks the show's rushed, bored, indifferent botch of the ending. Even shill media sites, which usually claim to LOVE all the corporate-made geek culture things, are reading the room and bowing to actual viewer reaction and daring to criticize that which was previously beyond criticism.

Personally, I don't even mind the show that much because it's sucked for the last three years and my expectations were low already and lowered still by episode 3, which gave away the trajectory of the coming plot.

And the show rushed through last season, and now set itself up for not one but two Final Boss Fights in just the last two episodes, so I knew these were going to be rushed, slapdash pieces of shit, too.

Spoilers below.

Question, Before We Get to the Rest of the Post: bluebell suggested this question: Which show is ending more disastrously, the BBC's modern Sherlock or Game of Thrones? I guess we can add in Lost and Twin Peaks (both the original show and The Return) into the competition, too. Oh, and I hear Dexter was a disaster at the end, though I never saw a minute of it.

Many people are upset about the Villain Turn a character took last episode. I think that turn could have been decent -- if this had been a ten episode season, and we had seen the character descend into evil a little at a time, so that we would start anticipating it, then accepting it, and then seeing it as both organic and maybe even inevitable.

But the way they rushed through this -- all major BULLET POINTS!!! with barely any dramatization around them -- makes this all feel like characters are now just doing things because the producers are bored and have been bored for years and want to move on to ruining another franchise (Star Wars, in this case -- which I'm not sure can be further ruined).

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have repeatedly stated that the crowning moment of this book series to them was the Red Wedding, and their major goal was just to do the show justice, and garner enough of an audience, to get greenlit into season 3 so they could film that.

Well, they did.

And that being their major goal -- they began getting very bored of the show by season 5 and had to start doing their own writing. They had to start doing their own writing even before St. George's actual book material ran out, because, let's face it, the next two books written by George R.R. Martin were overlong, under-achieving cash-grabs. George R.R. Martin had intended for the narrative to end at book 3, and then use a five or seven year time jump to advance up to the two books that would conclude the series, but I think he was psyched to finally be making money on the books and so he cranked out the piece of shit books 4 and 5 to fill in the years he previously had thought were too uneventful to bother writing about, except for catch-me-up bits in the beginning of the next book.

And those books would not have made for very good tv -- they did not make for good reading, by and large -- and so Benioff and Weiss began improvising in season 5.

And it showed. Martin's books might not have provided strong material but they didn't actually improve on his crap; they just made it shorter. Which is, I admit, a good thing, but not good enough.

And then we got to the actual conclusion. The producers had, it has been widely reported, a basic outline of what GRRM envisioned the last two books to eventually (???) be about.

And it seems like they filmed that. The outline, I mean. Just the outline. Bullet point here, film the bullet point. Bullet point there, film the bullet point.

Let's crap out this piece of crap and go home.*

Like I said, my expectations were very diminished and I've gotten used to this I-hate-my-job-and-want-to-die style of storytelling, so I don't really care about how crap it's all gotten. I viewed the last episode like a normie, no longer invested in these Writer's Conveniences which are alleged to be characters -- there was a lot of spectacle and rushing around, and I have to admit, I enjoyed it on just a basic time-wasting level.

But I'm so, so HAPPY the media is taking another blow and embarrassing itself with its continued, determined incompetence.

Anything that reduces their esteem and influence, well, I'm all about that.

Also below: My feelings about the media, in song form. Content warning for language on that second one.

By the way, although I've tried to only hint about spoilers, the thread will contain spoilers, so try to keep out if you haven't seen the last episode yet.

* "Let's crap out this piece of crap" is a line from the last season of Community, where they just want to make a quick cash-grab movie over a weekend.

Oh, by the way, the SJWs are hair-on-fire too, of course, because fictional women aren't all superheroes and goddesses like Cat-Lady Marvel:

I have to give the show a few charity points for at least making the SJW weirdos want to cut on themselves.
