"Unplanned" Movie Surpasses Planned Parenthood in Followers, Despite Twitter's Aggressive Efforts to Unfollow People from Their Account; "Joker" Trailer Surprises
A movie about a defector from Planned Parenthood is making the left and Twitter (but I repeat myself) very angry. It made them more angry when the film's twitter account gathered more followers than Planned (Non) Parenthood itself.
This was actually Twitter's second attack on the film -- first they suspended the account for no reason. Later they would strip it of its "Verified" status, again, for no reason.
#MuhPrivateBusinessBlahdeddyBoo.
Since then, twitter has fixed, supposedly, its three completely-random, completely-nonideological "errors" and the account now has over 250,000 followers.
Meanwhile, Todd Philips' Joker seems to be a legitimately dark and gritty story that seems more like crime drama about mental illness than what you see in a typical comic book movie. At least, that's what the trailer sells it as.
It looks like it's a rip-off -- let's say "homage" -- of not one but two Martin Scorsese movies about mentally ill losers: Joker seems to become a lunatic avenger like Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, and also seems to be a crazy comedian who commits crimes like Rupert Pupkin in King of Comedy.
The presence of Robert DeNiro underscores that connection.
Is Joker going to kill everyone in the talk show audience, like he did in The Dark Knight Returns? I say the odds are high that he does.
Trailers for both movies below.
In theaters everywhere March 29. #Unplanned is the true story of one woman’s journey of transformation. Abby Johnson was one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation.Until the day she saw something that changed everything. https://t.co/FQ4aXWBgEhpic.twitter.com/iEClpfBLLP
