Antarctica Will Be Warmer Than Many Parts of the Midwest In the Next Couple of Days

Here's the gist:

Temperatures in Alaska have been running above average the last few days and that will continue into midweek.

Fairbanks in the typically cold interior of Alaska is forecast to have highs in the low 20s on Tuesday and mid-teens Wednesday, much above the late January average high of 2 degrees.

For comparison, high temperatures in Chicago will be in the single digits Tuesday and teens below zero on Wednesday.

The Midwest will also be colder than Antarctica's McMurdo Station. High temperatures this week at the U.S. Antarctic research center are forecast to be in the teens and low 20s, easily warmer than the highs parts of the Midwest will see through Thursday.

It is summer in Antarctica, of course.

But the point is: It's going to be very cold, especially in the US interior. I can't believe this is right, but a graphic at that annoying article says that the high temperature for Chicago on Wednesday will be negative 14.

Is that even right? Well, checking another site, it say Chicago will have a high of negative 12 on Wednesday and a low of negative 22.

So it's right. Wow. That's terrible. There's a Wind Chill Warning, too, for all of NE Illinois:

...WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON CST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills. Wind chills as low as 20 to 30 below expected today and as low as 50 to 55 below zero expected tonight through Thursday morning.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest Indiana and north central and northeast Illinois.

Wow. Wow.
