The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

My grandmother came to The United States in 1902 at the age of five. She spoke Russian and Yiddish, and not a single word of English. There was no facility for accommodation of the dozens of languages spoken by the immigrants of the day, and when she stepped onto lower Manhattan from the Ellis Island ferry there was not a single sign in Russian or Yiddish for her to read. Yet she managed to navigate the complexities of America, and in the process learned English so well that at my tender age of 29 I have never met anyone who spoke it better or knew more grammar.

Family Sues Universal Orlando for Not Posting Ride Warnings in Spanish

The family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the theme park, claiming that Universal Orlando was partially responsible for a 38-year-old father's death because he suffered a heart attack after he rode on the "Skull Island: Reign of Kong" ride.

The entrance to the ride reportedly displayed a sign in English stating, "Warning! This ride is an expedition through the rough terrain of King Kong's natural habitat. The movement of the truck is dynamic with sudden accelerations, dramatic tilting, and jarring actions."

Sorry, but I never took Spanish and still managed to figure out how to get through Mexican airports. Spanish and English are not as dissimilar as English and Russian or Yiddish or Japanese or....

The idea that this guy and his family had no inkling of the stresses of the ride or that they could not get some sense of the English signs is laughable. Obviously this is an attempt at extorting money out of Disney, but it is also a sign of the times, in which WE must accommodate the foreigners, the illegals, the interlopers in our midst.

Build the damned wall, and maybe also stop letting in tourists who can't function on even a basic level in our country. What's next? "RED MEANS STOP! in 19 languages? "FLUSH AFTER DEFECATING! in Urdu and Pashtun and French?

Ever hear of these folks? I have read a few short articles about them, and what strikes me most is how simple and unassuming it is. "Get off the couch, put down the video game controller, and do something nice for someone who needs a bit of help."

RMLS provides free lawn care to our elders, those who are disabled, single mothers and our veterans, who do not have the time, resources and/or money to manicure their yards.
