The Morning Rant: Hangover Edition

Booze has been with us for thousands of years, and it has satisfied Man's understandable desire to change his perception of the world, his cave, the screaming kids, or the "4" he desperately wants to be a "9." And that's fine! In spite of what the lunatics at MADD want you to believe, most people handle alcohol quite well, and the correlation between regular drinking and success (define it any way you wish) is solid. Of course that means nothing, because most people drink, and think nothing of it.

The current craze to legalize marijuana while demonizing alcohol -- and the other drug we have huge experience with: nicotine -- is a two part stupidity. The first part is the continuous drive to break down the traditions of Western, Judaeo-Christian culture by marginalizing one of its most important social lubricants, and the other is a bald-faced attempt to curry favor with the light-voting stoners of society whose own sacrament (I wonder why they call it "Dope?") is lightly studied and much less of a social lubricant and much more of a social soporific. And nicotine? Please...show me the damage it does to society and I'll sign on. Sure, tobacco smoking shortens life, but its costs are fully paid by its adherents, and if the worst public problem with smoking is the clouds of smoke outside of buildings...why is that our problem or our business?
