Hillary Clinton Calls for Europe to End Mass Immigration... To Stop Trump, of Course

Keep the foreigners out to stop Trump!

European leaders should push for greater control over immigration in order to deal with the rise of right-wing politics, according to former Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton.

"I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame," Clinton told U.K. newspaper The Guardian in an interview published Thursday.

Clinton suggested that immigration was inflaming voters and contributed to the election of President Donald Trump and Britain's June 2016 vote to leave the EU.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel garnered praise in many quarters for her principled stance when migration peaked -- allowing over 1 million migrants to enter the country in 2015 -- but the decision also cost her dearly. Her position on migration has been cited as a reason that her party didn't fare so well in the country's last election and fueled the rise of right-wing party the Alternative for Germany.

"I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message -- 'We are not going to be able to continue provide refuge and support' -- because if we don't deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic."

Hillary then clarified she was calling for "immigration reform," and not, I guess, a complete shut-down of immigration.

Hillary Clinton on Friday attempted to clarify her comments on European migration hailed by some on the far right, saying that immigration reform, "not open borders," is needed "on both sides of the Atlantic."

"On both sides of the Atlantic, we need reform. Not open borders, but immigration laws enforced with fairness and respect for human rights. We can’t let fear or bias force us to give up the values that have made our democracies both great and good," she wrote.

In a March 2016 debate with Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton had vowed to no less an open borders zealot than Jorge Ramos to not deport a single illegal already in the country, except for "violent criminals" and "terrorists." A video at the link shows how emphatic she was about not deporting any illegals -- including stating that she found Obama's immigration policy too right-wing!

And now she's saying Europe, and America as well, have to shut down mass immigration. Or I guess as she clarified: enact immigration reform so that we can shut down mass immigration.

This sounds like positioning for another presidential run.

Let's hope there are no stairs involved.
