As always, the chess/dress pr0n thread is an open thread, so there is no such thing as an off-topic comment.

Easier Problem - White To Play
8/pk3p2/bp1Bp1p1/3qP2p/1P3Q2/3p3P/5PPK/8 w - - 0 1
White basically has to force Black's king into the corner, making sure he can't escape along the way.
1.Qxf7+ Kc6
Not 1...Kc8?? 2.Qc7#
2.Qe8+
Don't be tempted by 2.Qc7+ because 2...Kb5 3.Qd7+ Qc6 and the prey escapes.
2...Kb7
3.Qd7+ Ka8
4.Qd8+ Kb7
Avoiding the blunderific 4.Qc8+?? Bxc8.
5.Qc7+ Ka8
6.Qb8#
A similar 6-move mate will also be the result if Black tries 1...Ka8 2.Qe8+ Kb7 3.Qd7+ Ka8 4.Qd8+ Kb7 5.Qc7+ Ka8 6.Qb8#
More Challenging Problem - Black To Play
8/5kp1/4q2p/4Q3/5P1K/6PP/8/8 b - - 0 1
1...g5+ 2.Qxg5
Other moves are equally disastrous:
2.fxg5 Qxe5 and you'd think maybe White would be able to generate threats with his 3 pawns, but his king is boxed in and so Black can finish things up in short order: 3.Kg4 Qe4+ 4.Kh5 Qf3+ 5.Kh4 Kg6 (3.gxh6 Kg6 4.g4 Qe1#) 6.gxh6 Qh5#
And 2.Kh5 results in the immediate Qxh3#.
2...hxg5+
3.Kxg5 Qg6+
4.Kh4 Qf5
5.g4 Qxf4
6.Kh5 Kf6
7.h4 Kg7 (7.Kh4 Qe3 8.g5+ Qxg5#)
8.g5 Qf3#
Hope to see you all next week!

Note: that cryptic line of letters and numbers you see underneath each board diagram is a representation of the position in what is known as "Forsyth-Edwards Notation", or F.E.N. It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and past it into your chess app.
