White Democrat Legislator: I Don't Have to Worry About Diversity, Because I'm a Member of the African American Community
Me too. I was one of the very, very few people to pay to see Mario Van Peebles, Jr.'s Posse, a mostly-black-cast western, in the theater, and I think that makes me a member of the African American community as well.
But you know who I didn't see in the theater? This honky.
A white North Carolina Democratic candidate brushed aside questions earlier this week about ensuring diversity in his state by saying he is a member of the black community.
House of Representatives candidate Gary Shipman said he doesn't need to worry about diversity because he has already experience it as a member of the African-American community, reported The News & Observer Wednesday.
"I'm a member of the African-American community," Shipman said. "I've been where you are. I've been in your communities."
I've got The Theme from Shaft on my workout playlist. I'm black too.
...
When one female candidate offered to go to African American events in the community, Shipman said he didn't need an invitation because black people already view him as one of them.
Shipman later tried to explain his comments after an inquiry from the News & Observer, saying he doesn’t really believe he is black but that he was just trying to illustrate how embedded he is in the community.
"I've eaten at many a fish fry held by my 'brothers' and 'sisters,' 'aunts' and 'uncles' in that community; I've celebrated birthdays, births, marriages, graduations, Christmas, Thanksgiving, July 4, etc., with many members of the African-American community," Shipman wrote in an email to The News & Observer.
Even though I'm low-carb, I occasionally eat a Popeye's chicken breast (I think it's like 20 carbs). I'm black -- I mean, I'm a Person of Color, too.
By the way: How sick of you are with the leftist trope of just naming a series of nouns when you want to show how diverse or inclusive you are? "I see an America of African Americans, Latinos, gays, lesbians, trangenders. I see an America of schoolteachers, shop owners, soldiers, firemen, astronauts and farmers."
Democrats really just love listing nouns in sequence. It shows how committed they are to commas.
