Once again academia demonstrates that they do not have any life outside of the faculty lounge. Conservative white men = Boogeymen

An official University of California, Berkeley publication is offering “insights” to help readers “make sense of gun violence,” primarily by blaming it on conservative “white men.”

“For many white men, guns are a source of meaning and purpose,” Jeremy Adam Smith asserts, noting that “the American citizen most likely to own a gun is a white male—but not just any white guy.”

Smith is the editor of Greater Good Magazine, a publication produced by UC-Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center to explore “the science of a meaningful life” and “turn scientific research into stories, tips, and tools for a happier life and a more compassionate society

I'm not a resident of Chicago, and unless things have really changed there. Mr. Smith has his facts screwed up. Chicago African-Americans are more likely to be killed by another African-American.

After hearing about a woman attempting to start a sex-strike in Chicago, ultimately based on the Ancient Greek play Lysistrata, to end the gun violence, we thought it would be good to dig into the numbers a little bit. We wish we hadn't.

Simply put, Chicago has a massive Black-on-Black murder problem. All of the data below comes from the Chicago Police Department. You can access it here.

In 2011, the latest data officially released by the Chicago Police, there were 433 homicides. Of these, just 128 (29%) had a corresponding prosecution.

VICTIMS

83.4% of deaths were from shootings, 6.7% stabbings, and 6.5% assaults. Of the 362 firearm homicides, 351 (97%) were from handguns. 77% of all homicide victims had a prior arrest history. Victims were 90% male.

So, blacks are killing blacks with handguns and not the dreaded AR-15 and I'm to blame? Got it.
