The Morning Report 3/5/18
Good morning kids. Start of another week and I'm going to jump around a bit since a lot of the heat generated by the Parkland high school mass murder and gun control debate has ratcheted down a notch or so since Friday and other things seem to be bubbling under.
Domestic policy and politics are in the lead. First, concern over the President's moves on tariffs vis a vis the aluminum and steel industries. Conventional wisdom and history dictate that nations hit by those tariffs will retaliate in kind and, voila, a trade war ensues. Now that said, there is no doubt that both of those aforementioned industries are on life support and that foreign producers have subsidized their own steel and aluminum industries to the detriment of our own. But by the same token, insane environmental and labor regulations over the years and decades are probably the main culprit in the destruction of those industries an our manufacturing base as a whole so perhaps that should be the focus. And as the link to Scott Pruitt suggests, as well as the President's record of slashing red tape, it certainly seems to be. I think much of the talk on trade in a way is a negotiating tactic by PDT. I do agree that we can't just keep bending over and taking it when it comes to trade. But the laws of economics are quite clear. I'm sure there is a sweet spot to finding the right balance. And for sure, cutting the bureaucracy and taking the boot off of the neck of the golden goose, IMHO, should be priority one.
Moving along, the Democrats led by mostly by Cuck Schemer are trying to ride out the clock until next year and are stalling many of the President's judicial and agency nominees. Sadly, they are still being aided and abetted by Mitch McConnell and the GOP-e. This kind of garbage is pissing off the base, and considering that the anti-American base within the Democrats are running almost exclusively on Trump hatred, both of these factors being more worrying as we get closer to the midterms.
Now, all that said, the Democrat Party in and of itself seems to be in complete disarray. The nearly bankrupt DSC and DCCC saw fit to give a Hillary organization nearly $900,000 in case for who-knows-what while the so-called "progressive" wing is more and more in open revolt with the party for a host of reasons. Add to this the irresistible attraction to push for gun control, and November could shape up to be a disaster for them. If only there was an actual united opposition party to them that could take advantage of the discord.
And speaking of gun control, the Senate establishmentarians are worried that as the bodies of the victims grow cold, they will lose the opportunity to use them as the cudgel with which to beat us into submission to surrender or Second Amendment rights. By the way, for those who still do not know why we have that amendment in our Constitution, look no further to what happened in South Africa late last week - that would be the same South Africa that Ruth Baader-Meinhoff thinks has a better Constitution than we do. Vayr ge hargit, Ruth.
On the international front, Guatemala shows up the rest of the world by formally announcing its intention to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Sure, cynics might say that they don't want to potentially lose American foreign aid. But that said, this is what strong, clear American leadership looks like. Central and South America saw a resurgence of socialism over the past decade or so as well as that of Iran and now the Chi-Coms, so keeping an ally, albeit an impoverished one, stable is not a bad move at all. Besides, you don't make friends sadly by rejecting the Joo-hate, so kudos to Guatemala. And speaking of the Chi-Coms, reading the tea leaves of what's really going on behind the Great Wall is daunting considering it's still a totalitarian regime. But there is now no doubt that Xi Jinping fancies himself to be the next Mao Zedong. Their arming themselves to the teeth coupled with their increased bellicosity does not bode well, but that said, demographics, more than a taste of capitalism plus a potentially faltering economy (despite the propaganda) might portend "interesting times" for them and for us.
Finally, of course last night was the Academy Awards. I did not watch it as it is every bit a propagandistic display as are the major networks, newspapers and classrooms. And in the new media, conservative, pro-American, pro Judeo-Christian programming is being censored left and right left. 9/11 truthers get promoted while Dennis Prager, Sargon of Akkad and others are silenced - and worse. Pamela Gellar's daughters have been doxed. And considering the nature of those with whom their momma is in disagreement with, that is a sub-optimal situation. That said, everyone is denouncing Bruce Willis' "Death Wish" remake so I guess I'm going to have to go see it.
Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.
