Hillary Clinton, Take 2 on Why She Kept Serial Harasser Burns Strider on the Payroll: "I Now Choose to Live My Life as a Gay Man"
John Sexton has a good point about Hillary's new "explanation" about why she enabled another predatory sexual harasser - I mean, besides the obvious explanation of "I am a very secretive person in general, and I've spent my life covering things up." Or: "As usual, I chose to hide something from the American voters."
Sexton likens her new "explanation" to her evolutions on the email/server scandal: First claiming she did nothing wrong, then saying if she had to do it over again, she'd do it differently -- while still not admitting she did anything wrong.
A Clintonian "explanation" is carefully written so that it conveys the substance of an apology without actually offering one -- it's like a shady contract term written by a chiseler, deliberately written to mislead.
When she wants the media to push the Narrative that she apologized already and it's time to move on, the statement will serve that purpose, as one could interpret it that way -- if Hillary's PR people ask you to interpret it that way.
However, she's careful to not actually apologize or actually admit fault. So later on, if a political rival says "You admitted fault yourself in this previous statement," she can say "Oh no I didn't" -- and that will sort of be true.
While this does resemble her email lies, and in fact all previous Clinton lies (both hers and her pretend husband's), it also resembles the earlier statements issued by sexual predators uncovered by the #MeToo campaign -- they too would broadly, vaguely express some kind of sympathy for the victim, something their PR agents could claim was "taking responsibility" to the media while pointedly admitting nothing at all, and certainly admitting nothing that could be used against them in court.
Take Al Franken's statements on his serial groping, for example. Check out Politico's headline:
Full text: Al Franken apologizes for allegedly groping woman
Well, yeah, he apologized for the one thing.
As to the forcible kiss, he claimed he didn't believe her, which is why it's so important to believe all women:
"While I don't remember the rehearsal for the skit as Leeann does, I understand why we need to listen to and believe women's experiences."
This was then used by many in the liberal media -- like AB Stoddard, spinning for him on Fox News, claiming he admitted and apologized for everything.
No, he admitted and apologized the thing for which there was smoking gun proof -- a photograph catching him red-handed -- while saying he had a different "recollection" about the matter of the ghastly forced kiss.
He never did get around to specifying exactly what that "different recollection" consisted of.
Franken's statement was calibrated to present a Fake Apology for his liberal water-carriers to deliver to the public, to cool passions while he waited for the controversy to blow over.
But of course he didn't admit to or apologize for everything -- he insinuated that his "different recollection" was that Leanna Tweeden actually was totally into tongue-kissing this toad. (For what other "different recollection" could he harbor that would excuse him?)
And Kevin Spacey also famously said he was sorry that his victim remembered things that way, while not admitting to any wrongdoing at all.
Spacey also tweeted that he did not remember the encounter.
"But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years," he wrote.
You see, like Franken, he has a simple gap in memory. Me personally? I have a hard time remembering all the fourteen year old boys I did or did not sexually abuse. It's like trying to remember your past zip codes. Who can blame me for forgetting all of my victims?
And isn't it ironic that the serial enabler of sexual harassment is deploying the same "I now choose to live my life as a gay man" non-apology-but-hopefully-my-PR-people-can-sell-my-liberal-media-friends-that-it-is-an-apology non-apology.
She should have just claimed a failure of memory like the other sexual abusers -- after all, there is video evidence that perhaps her brain isn't quite working as well as it used to.
