Trump All Over The Map on Immigration

Situation normal, all Trumped up.

The Good:

President Trump on Wednesday attacked mayors who boycotted a White House event over his administration's crackdown on so-called sanctuary cities. "The mayors who choose to boycott this event have put the needs of criminal, illegal immigrants, over law-abiding America," Trump told a group of mayors who attended the event. "So let me tell you, the vast majority of people showed up."

The Bad:

The president told reporters he wanted to give the so-called Dreamers a way to achieve full citizenship in 10 to 12 years.

"Tell them not to be concerned," Trump said. "Tell them not to worry. We will solve the problem."

While Republicans, mostly in the House, have resisted such a move as "amnesty," the president said a solution is "[up to] the Democrats."

The objective is drawn from a recurring fear, shared among Trump allies and anti-immigration hardliners both within and without the administration, that the president's proclivity to change his tune based on what the last person advised could be exploited by Schumer and Democratic leaders.
