The Morning Report 1/23/18
Good morning kids. First, above the fold, reports are coming in of a massive earthquake hitting early this morning off the Alaskan coast near Kodiak Island, triggering a tsunami warning down to British Columbia and watches even further south towards the California Coast. No reports of damage or injuries yet, but an 8.2 magnitude quake is extremely powerful. More updates as and when they happen. Preemptive prayers up. Stay safe if you or loved ones are in the region.
Down here, the political earthquakes continue to hammer away at the foundations of our nation along two fault lines. First, more revelations from the Deep State and what is now sadly safe to call its front group, the FBI. Rogue agent/insurrectionist Peter Strzok and his adulterous girlfriend and colleague Lisa Page evidently spoke of setting up some sort of "secret society" the day after Trump's election. No word on exactly what they meant by that, but I'm sure it was in par with Spanky and Alfalfa forming the He-Man Woman-Hater's Klub. Also, current FBI Director Christopher Wray reportedly threatened to resign over pressure to shit-can Deep-Stater McCabe. If that's the case, then this is a sign for Wray himself to be shown the door.
The second major story is of course the epic failure of the Schumer-Shutdown. We have a number of links that deal with how this shakes out for DACA and Amnesty in general, both in the Democrats absolute intransigence on this issue, the hardcore Left base's incandescent rage at their party for what they perceive as a total cave to Trump and the GOP, the near civil war within that party between those who want to drive it even further left (if that is possible) and those who want to maintain the wafer-thin illusion of being "moderate," and how the GOP-e is still hell bent on opposing the American people and the President in their lust for cheap labor and to maintain their position as the sham opposition party for the Democrats.
Circling back to the American people, polls indicate that a shocking (I guess to the Media-Democrat Complex in and out of the Beltway) plurality of Americans not only oppose Amnesty but want a serious curb to even legal immigration. They know that this is the single issue that will decide the fate of this nation and its identity. In fact, indications are that Americans of black and even Latino heritage are solidly anti-Amnesty so this is yet another golden opportunity for the Golden Scalpweasel to gain inroads into these heretofore solidly Democrat voting blocs and another opportunity for the GOP to miss an opportunity to do the same, contrary to all their incessant kvetching about "Hispanic outreach to win elections" or some such dreck.
On the international front, VP Pence gave a fantastic speech in Israel's Knesset where he publicly proclaimed Jerusalem as Israel's capital, announced the speeding up of the process to move our embassy there by 2019 and the surprise announcement that President Trump will indeed decertify the Obama Iran Nuke sellout when it comes up for review next May, IIRC. In the comments yesterday, people were calling Pence boring, possibly the same people who complain about Trump tweeting and being crude. The only thing that matters to me, in the last analysis, is results. Whatever one thinks of Pence, or for that matter another name that has been bandied about as a possible future GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley, clearly being around Trump has been a very positive influence. Yes the two of them caved big time on RFRA and the BLM anti-Confederate cultural revolution. But I don't think that either of those should necessarily disqualify them in the future. And these two are burnishing their foreign policy chops and perhaps even their style/attitude in the way they treat the Media-Democrat-Leftist complex. This is indicative of another intangible that Trump has brought in his first year - fighting back for what you believe in and fighting back hard. But I digress...
France is charging an ISIS terrorist with plotting a major bomb attack, international NGOs are helping Haiti cause trouble with its relatively stable neighbor, the Dominican Republic, CIA chief Mike Pompeo is sounding alarm bells on the status of Whoa, Fat's! nuke arsenal and the Iranians are conducting large scale maneuvers and threatening US Navy ships.
Lastly, back at home, the President is leading the way in helping states cut off Planned Parenthood funding while (not linked here) the Utah legislature has introduced a bill to ban selective abortion of Downs Syndrome babies.
Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.
