In Banlieu Near Paris, Police Car Overturned and Smashed and Female Cop Beaten Down by Mob

Meet the new year, same as the old year.

Horrifying video footage has emerged of a female police officer and her boss being beaten in a Paris suburb.

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday following an emergency call in Champigny-sur-Marne, an area to the south-east of the city.

The unnamed police officer was filmed by gang members as she was kicked around by the attackers. The footage was then uploaded onto the internet by the group.

At one stage, her colleague appears so badly beaten up that he takes his gun out his holster, but does not let off a shot.

The footage on social media has sparked outrage across France, with president Emmanuel Macron promising to bring the culprits to justice.

Macron said: 'Those guilty of the cowardly and criminal lynching of police doing their duty on the night of December 31st will be found and punished.

'Force will support the law. Honour to the police and full support to all the agents attacked in such a low level fashion.'

Video at the link. Incidentally, France is now debating whether they should re-establish minimum sentences for criminals who assault policemen.

Apparently they got rid of that, and it's an open question of whether they should have some minimum sentence for thugs who beat up cops in the street.

By the way, while it's the attack on this pair of cops at Champigny-sur-Marne that's getting the international headlines, there was in fact another attack on a cop in another banlieu, a Aulnay-sous-Bois. (Champigny is to the east-south-east of Paris; Aulnay is to the west-north-west. They're about 20 km apart.) Apparently a cop was attempting to arrest someone suspected of transporting drugs on a stolen scooter; after chasing this guy down and grabbing him, five men "from the corner," aged 14-24, began beating the cop to make him let go of the perp, with one of them jumping on the cop's head with both feet together.
