Lawsuits Filed Against Apple Due to Older Phones Being Slowed Down By Updates
Apple says the slow-down is needed to conserve declining battery reserves. But they didn't tell anyone about the deliberate slow downs until last week.
Now come the lawsuits.
Apple Inc defrauded iPhone users by slowing devices without warning to compensate for poor battery performance, according to eight lawsuits filed in various federal courts in the week since the company opened up about the year-old software change.
The tweak may have led iPhone owners to misguided attempts to resolve issues over the last year, the lawsuits contend.
All the lawsuits - filed in U.S. District Courts in California, New York and Illinois - seek class-action to represent potentially millions of iPhone owners nationwide.
Also, a recent report claimed that Apple was cutting the sales projections of its new Apple X, which has pushed down Apple's stock price some and has generally taken some of the wind out of the sails of Wall Street.
Apple is trying to undo the bad press by offering battery replacements -- but only for phones of the 6 model or later -- for $29 through the next year, which is $50 off the usual cost.
