Merry Christmas, friends! I hope this evening find y'all safe and warm with friends, at home in front of a roaring fire, or celebrating the birth of Christ the Lord at your preferred church. As we do every year, lets take the time to sing a few seasonal favorites together and enjoy the warmth and fellowship of our little virtual community. Be warned though. This year, we're going from the traditional to the modern to the absurd. Ready? Then crank those speakers up to 11!
Just a fantastic job with that video. I love the chorus appearing on the hill in their white robes.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
-Luke 2: 13-14
And so the shepherds left their flocks in the fields and went to Bethlehem to behold the miracle. It must have been a heady wine indeed, observing the newborn king lying in a manger, in a dirty barn, surrounded by animals.
Blazing in the night sky above, a new star bathed the scene in holy light. Following this light, three travelers, variously cast as kings from the east or wise men, perhaps both, approached with gifts for the newborn.
Gold- A gift for a king
Frankincense- a gift for a priest
Myrrh - A resin used most commonly in embalming bodies after death, a gift signifying the ultimate fate of the Christ-child, suffering and death for the sins of mankind.
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
-Matthew 25:40
That night, the least among them has his own gift to give to Jesus.
And so we gather together here, virtually, 21 centuries later, to celebrate this day of days, this night of nights, in glorious fellowship and love.
That's why we're here. Now I realize that I've told the narrative here, conflating Luke and Matthew and adding a few more recent embellishments. No matter. Even if you are not Christian, or even religious, we live in a society that was shaped by these beliefs, and from these roots we get.....Christmas!
"Scary ghost stories"? You do you Andy, I suppose. There's another secular icon we can't forget this time of year (as if the kids would let us!)
Well, the hour is getting late, and it's time to down the last shot of Val-U-Rite and head to bed. Before you go, remember to be of good cheer, and hey, nobody ever said that you can't celebrate with some kick ass rock and roll!
BONUS CUT!
Didja ever wonder what it would be like if we Morons did this in person, rather than virtually?
