The Morning Report 12/20/17
Good morning kids. Well, midweek and the Tax Bill has passed in the Senate with a revote set for later today after yesterday's procedural hiccup in the House. The vote was strictly along party lines, minus McCain and Cochran who are out ill. This is a huge deal both from a political standpoint for the President but honestly for the American people and the American economy. Is it ideal? Is it perfect? Of course not; with deficits of over $22 trillion and unfunded liabilities at a society-killing $200+ trillion, the radical (pardon the pun) solution is some sort of flat/fair tax and the shrinking of the Federal government back down to its original size as mandated by the framers of the Constitution.
But that aside, the quality of the legislation is in direct proportion to the volume and insanity of the rhetoric against it. Bravo, Mr. President. You are closing out a wildly successful first year in office with the most significant tax legislation in over 30 years. And to the dozen GOP House miscreants who voted against this, I understand that you come from blue-state tyrannies but instead of attacking the President and hardworking Americans because of the (heh) "disparate impact" the bill has on your states, why not shut your worthless cake-holes and actually do something politically to lower the taxes where you live? It's beyond galling that for so long, 42 states have had to work harder for the honor of being essentially forced to pay for the profligacy and social engineering disasters of the other 8. Suck it up, buttercups.
While this is good news, McYertle is tabling DACA talks with the Dems until after the New Year, which means that another emergency spending bill is likely to happen to fund the government (spit) and that this issue is still on the table. And the cherry on the cake is abortion funding is in the Obamacare "stability bill" whatever the hell that is. And there goes my good mood.
And speaking of the soft coup, we have a piece about Mueller's overreach in grabbing all the e-mails of the incoming administration AFTER the election, the Awans of Debbie Wasserman-Test fame ran a shady car dealership that had some very interesting ties and Sally Yates the former assistant AG and current insurrectionist is now speaking about the rule of law.
Meanwhile evidence is coming to light that there is a possibility that Doug Jones in Alabama may have been dragged over the finish line with the help of out-of-state voters, and in Virginia, the state legislature is now tied at 50-50 because a Democrat candidate won a ballot recount by, get this, one vote.
On the international front, a Houthi missile launched from Yemen was intercepted barely in the nick of time before it hit the Saudi government palace in Riyadh. The launch comes on the heels of (or is in reaction to?) the US declaring Iran as the supplier. And in the UN, after Nikki Haley vetoed the Security Council resolution rejecting the US recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, the ambassador has issued a very strong warning to the General Assembly before it votes in emergency session to demand the US remove its embassy from the Israeli capital. Bring it; the reaction from PDT will no doubt be the announcement that the US will withdraw its membership and support for the UN, please G-d. High time.
Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.
