If It's Friday, This Must Be The ONT

So, anyhow, last week, as Harvey struck, a couple of guys from Galveston met on the 1st tee for their weekly game of golf. As 100 MPH + winds lashed the tee box, and torrential rains poured from the sky, the first guy teed up his ball, then stopped to nudge his partner. “Hey”, he said, pointing, “Look at that idiot out jogging in weather like this!”

OK, that just an old joke given topical trappings, but Oregon says “Hold my beer” anyway.

Fido Friday

So, last week a couple of you morons were peeved that I didn't include anything about dogs for “Fido Friday”. Well, I would have, if I'd have known about it, so here are 2 bits of dog related content. The first is a reaction to the news that Fido Friday is back

This second one isn't finished. I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop 3 to make a lot of these bits for the ONT. Well, I got a new computer recently, and I simply copied my entire C drive to the external hard drive as the best way to move most stuff over. Piece of cake, it's actually worked quite well, but some programs actually need to be reinstalled on my new computer to work properly. Jasc seems to be one of those, but I can't find the disc it's on to reinstall it. I actually got Animation Shop to work a little, but it crapped out and wouldn't rerun, so all I have is this. All I need is to re-size and re-font the text and apply it to each frame, but until I find the disc, you'll have to be happy with this:

Karma

I'm far too intelligent for karma, but I'm just going to leave this here.

Quiz

Quick, what's this?

Answer later in the ONT.

Small Victory

Texas overturns licensing requirements for braiding hair.

Be warned, it's a link to Cosmo, so it goes into a lot of bullshit about this being a victory for Afrocentric practices and cultural blah-de-blah and a bunch of other crap, but they are basically right. What they fail to see, looking through their lens of identity politics and racial grievances, is that this needs to be applied on a massive scale. Almost all state licensing is completely unnecessary and serves only as a barrier to competition favoring established businesses. Why should barbers be licensed? Or landscapers, or even insurance agents? No reason except A) as a revenue stream for the state and B) as I said, to impose a barrier to entry to prevent fair competition. What's really sad it that the fight took this woman 20 years, in Texas. We're doomed.

Related: The Government’s response to the Harvey floods: Do anti-gouging laws kill?

I've been meaning to revisit Fundamental Concepts and write one on this subject, but suffice it to say that in situations like this, so called “price gouging” is the invisible hand's method of ensuring that desperately needed supplies reach affected areas. This also has nothing to do with human kindness and charity, a great example of which can be seen here:

Stupid Ways to Cook

That being said, I bet that car smelled so good that I defy anyone NOT to eat all the cookies on the way home.

Another One of These Things

Vive La Différence!

The cognitive differences between men and women

I'm sure I'll still be saying it on my deathbed: Different does not imply that either is better or worse than the other. They are just....different. Doesn't fit The Narrative tho.

Quiz Answer

That's a Multiocular O, and it's the rarest letter in any language in the world. I believe there is only one documented use of it in history. Either that, or it's the monster that chased the Monty Python gang out of the cave in the Holy Grail, I'm not sure.
