There is something sad and era-ending about these scenes. Fighting ships seem to have hearts and minds, at least the romanticized version of them that lives in the hearts of the men who fought on them.
JMW Turner has always intrigued me. His scenes of the sea are best seen in person -- they don't have the impact on the small screen. But he also confuses me. This painting has me thinking that the sky is the subject, and the ship just happened to wander in to the scene...
