Trump Signs New Revised Travel Ban
A few changes:
Iraq is now off the list of countries affected by the ban. Instead, Trump says Iraq will cooperate more in helping vet their travelers.
It also makes clear that Green Card holders or people who have already gotten a Visa are exempt.
Finally, it bars all travelers from the six named countries from coming to the US for 120 days. The previous order had banned Syrian travelers indefinitely.
I don't think any of these changes have any legal ramifications. The Ninth Circuit ruled this was illegal based on... well, based on patently extra-legal grounds. But I don't see those grounds being affected by what I know if the new EO so far (which is very little).
I had heard that Trump was going to release an EO that could not be described in any other way but BALLER. A little disappointed that he didn't go that way, though that would have been controversial AF.
Full Text:Here at the NYT. (I'll swap in another link when I find it.)
The order itself contains a legal rebuttal to the Ninth Circus' claims, while not changing the basics of the order to what the Ninth Circus would consider acceptable. The order seems to just be trying to make it very difficult for the Ninth Circuit to strike this one down without giving the game away that they're simply now acting as Super-Presidents who are simply vetoing policies they don't like because #TheResistance demands no less.
Secretary of State Tillerson, AG Jeff Sessions Speak On the Travel Restriction. Clips below.
The restrictions don't go into effect for another ten days. And now Trump has his secretaries out there talking it up. It seems they've taken the criticism that you have to give your would-be allies a heads-up on your moves before you make them has been accepted.
