Jasper Francis Cropsey
Cropsey was just another Hudson River School painter, but in my book that is high praise. Their works might not make my heart sing, but they are almost always pleasing to look at, and evocative of the glories of nature.
Plus, the detail on the sniper's rifle is impressive. It looks to me like a Spencer.
And...thank you all for the great feedback on my Philadelphia museum question. The problem is that I need about two weeks there, and I only have two days!
