Open Thread/TV Recommendation
Bethany Mandel has been writing about Lea Remini's expose on Scientology, called "Scientology and The Aftermath" on A&E.
I know a lot of the basics, as I watched the "Going Clear" documentary and read half of the book that was based on. But this series is good, and the topic benefits from the longer form of an ongoing series.
Lea Remini is also a very engaging host. First of all, she was a Scientologist for decades -- she was raised in Scientology, her parents joining (and signing her up too) when she was nine years old.
She's also the kind of appealing brassy no-bullshit kind of woman that they like to have on TV shows. She curses a lot in casual conversation, and is a pretty good interviewer.
She's really pissed off about Scientology and has the passion of a recent convert (or a recent apostate). It makes for good TV.
The season finale is on tomorrow night and A&E is running at least some of the previous episodes before then. So if you have a DVR, maybe set it to record.
