There is a surprising amount of criticism heaped on the Impressionists by The Horde, some of it fair, but some of it simply iconoclastic (what a surprise!). There is a certain...laxity of technique that can be childlike and unpleasant, but I wonder how much of that is a function of the small viewing size of a computer screen?
The impressionist art that I have seen in museums is almost always at least pleasing and thought provoking, and sometimes stunning.
And a little treat below the fold (Hat Tip: Village Idiot's Apprentice)
