« On Race and Judges, Trump Isn't a Racist nor a Conservative -- He's a Standard Issue Liberal | Main | Bumped Book Thread Because I'd Like to Continue All the Book Discussions I Had to Stop Because of My Dumb Job »

So, Who Is the GOP Going to Install as Its Nominee Instead of Trump?

I feel that the GOP Establishment played along with Trump for what they felt was a reasonable period of pretending, but now, a Decent Interval has passed, and they can abandon Trump.

Lindsey Graham calls for people to begin unendorsing Trump, and then...

Mark Kirk un-endorses Trump.

McConnell scolds Trump to get on message, and Senator Bob "Iran Deal" Corker warns that Trump has "two to three weeks" to get his campaign into working order.

Coincidentally, that's about the time before the convention.

What is the "or else" Corker is hinting at? Nothing, AllahPundit says.

Yeah I don't know if I agree with that.

First of all, I have heard that there are in fact schemes a-brewing to replace Trump with Ryan at the convention. How, you say? Well, simply by rewriting all the rules to allow delegates to vote as they will, for any candidate.

Now you may say "But that's extreme; they'd destroy the party."

Yes, but there are two competing considerations:

1. Elite GOP opinion-- the Upper Middle Class and Capital Class that controls the party -- is horribly embarrassed by Trump, and, little secret, they run this thing. You vote in it, but they run it.

And the people who run it can change the rules as they like.

2. Trump appears to be a likely loser. While he briefly pulled even with Hillary a couple of weeks ago -- when he had wrapped up the nomination, but she had not -- he is now slipping behind again. A Reuters poll just put him down by 11 -- 46 to 35, or something like that.

It is one thing to go to an election with a Glorious Loser, one who will lose, but who, in doing so, makes his supporters proud and #Feelz good about themselves. A moral victory, sometimes even sweeter than an actual victory.

It's quite another thing to go to an election with an Embarrassing Loser. Someone who not only loses, but makes you feel dirty in losing.

Well, to the Elite that control this party, Trump is looking more and more like an Embarrassing Loser.

So that's what I take all this judge bullshit to be about -- the psyops necessary to justify the party rewriting the rules and kicking Trump the hell out.

Yes, the Elite would lose the election if it does so. But they increasingly believe there is no way to avoid that.

They would be playing for the Moral Victory -- the beautiful loss that makes people #feelz good about their #Principlez.

Now, it may surprise you -- or not -- to know I'm not necessarily against any of this.

Trump won fair and square, yeah. (Sort of.)

But ask me how much I fucking care about that.

Let me explain my entire political raison d'etre:

BEAT HILLARY CLINTON.

That's it. That's the ballgame.

I don't care about anything else, really. Well, a few things I'll mention later.

But I definitely don't care about whether or not booting Trump out of the convention with not even a gold watch as a consolation prize is fair to him.

I do care that it's not fair to his supporters... but not enough to make me oppose booting him if he appears to be a sure loser, which he increasingly looks like again.

I happen to think the White Upper Middle Professional Class is silly and overproud -- the status conscious bourgeoisie who are a bit too fashionable and frivolous in their political passions.

They're just not good in a fight. They back down too quickly from the left's threat of reducing their social status.

Yet the fact is, you can't win an election without them. This group, which isn't only white, but is Super White, is a core group of any GOP coalition. Including the losing ones, even.

Definitely they're needed for the winning ones.

And Trump is simply having too good of a time being the low-class, I-don't-care-about-your-upwardly-mobile-middle-class-sense-of-propriety not-as-rich-as-me-anyway-poor-asses kind of guy he always has been.

He's alienating the hell out of them. He's making them feel as if they'd be supporting a racist pornographer child molester if they voted for him.

Among Trump's jobs was to bring this group aboard, and if he can't, then he's a Failure, not a #Winner, and I don't have to wait for November to know that for a fact.

As I've said, I think this class is silly in its preoccupations, and far too easily influenced by -- bullied by -- rolled over by -- their liberal colleagues to be stalwart defenders of the faith.

They're easily cowed and backed down.

Nevertheless, they run this bitch.

And that's just the way it is.

No, it's not a democracy. Never was. All a lie.

So I do think the GOP is actually gearing up to do something drastic in three weeks.

I think all the shrieking you're seeing right now is part of the battlespace preparation to prepare for that moment.

To justify it, to defend it. To show: "We had no other choice."

To say, "We tried working with him. You saw how hard we tried working for him! But he's just impossible. He's an animal, and we can't do anything to educate him."

The question I'm asking myself isn't whether they'll do this (if Trump keeps sinking in the polls, and stinking up the reputation of the Upper Middle Class Professionals that make up the high ranks of the party, they will), but who they'll replace him with.

The word is Paul Ryan. He denies that. He denies a lot of things.

I think he's a sneaky little rat who would be flattered by it, and flattered by it, he'd leap at it.

I'd go berserk if they tried that, personally. I think a lot of people would. He's already a proven electoral loser -- he got beaten by the Imbecile Joe Biden in a debate, for god's sake -- but they may try it anyway.

They might also try Rubio. I don't think I have to say what I'd think about that.

The hard question for me is this: If they installed Ryan or Rubio, could I go along with it?

I'm tempted to say "No," to warn them away from these possibilities, but as I've said before, my real imperative is

STOP HILLARY CLINTON

The woman actually frightens me, personally. I fear for citizen safety under this paranoid, corrupt, possibly-brain-impaired rage drunk.

So could I bring myself to support the loser amnesty-loving Ryan, or the loser amnesty-loving Rubio, if it meant keeping Hillary out of the White House?

The answer is probably "Yes, reluctantly."

But there are better choices out there.

And I don't mean Ted Cruz -- I realize the GOPe would never nominate Ted Cruz.

I mean Tom Cotton.

If they are going to do this ugly, anti-democratic thing, then I would strongly suggest they do so with a man whose credentials among the ideological conservative right and the anti-amnesty right, and not one of their preferred effeminate RINOs.

I hope nobody's too pissed at me from this post.

But this is where I see this is heading.

You don't shriek and scream like this and sabotage the GOP nominee unless it's your plan to make him toxic enough to swap him out for another nominee.

So put me down for Tom Cotton.

If you're going to do this despicable thing, at least do it by putting up a man Trump supporters could possibly support, not by putting up one of your preferred Ex-Im Bank Amnesty-loving US Chamber of Congress Establishment favorites.

Update: At least I pray these incompetent egotists have a plan along these lines.

I pray these overproud do-nothing non-elites-but-think-they're-elites aren't throwing an election to Hillary Clinton for no reason other than their bourgeois sense of pride.

Oh: If this class doesn't have the balls to do anything but kvetch and complain, and can't work up the guts to pull the trigger on replacing Trump at the convention -- then I do hope they'll do the rest of us the favor of shutting the fuck up where we who haven't fled reality do our best to keep the serial criminal Hillary Clinton out of office.
