Barack ObamaHillary Clinton Plans To Rule By Executive Order, And Guns Are Her First Target [CBD]
Reason.com (yes, I know....they are stoned) has a good article about Cankles' plans to rule by executive fiat, because that pesky Congress is just too intransigent to do some real work around Washington!
Hillary Clinton Picks a Doomed Fight With Americans Over Guns points out that maybe, just maybe, Americans might be a little perturbed by the notion that the government is going to regulate out of existence something that has always been part of the fabric of the nation. And oh, by the way, the 2nd Amendment has something to say about it too.
"Australia is a good example" Clinton told an audience a few months ago. "The Australian government, as part of trying to clamp down on the availability of automatic weapons, offered a good price for buying hundreds of thousands of guns. Then, they basically clamped down, going forward."
That country's 1996 law may well be a good example, but not of the sort the presidential candidate has in mind. In a country that lacked America's heavy political associations with gun ownership, the Sporting Shooters' Association of Australia estimates compliance with the compensated confiscation of self-loading rifles, self-loading shotguns, and pump-action shotguns at 19 percent.
Heh...in a country without powerful traditions of gun ownership or a healthy disdain for government power, the jack-booted storm troopers of the central government got 20% of the guns. I am sure that I must have missed the headline in the NY Times discussing that statistic. And it certainly reinforces my positive opinion of Aussies.
I wonder what that number will be in America?
