Oh, the article is crowing about what great writers have been assembled in the Hasbro Toy Cinematic Universe writer's room. And there are some names.
But they're being led by one of the most egregious hacks in Hollywood -- Akiva Goldsman. The guy who wrote Batman and Robin and Lost in Space.
Now, a writer is actually kind of a slave to the director, and Goldsman, and I imagine that many of the horrors in Batman and Robin were ordered by the studio (who wanted it "lighter" and "more kid-friendly") and the terrible camp director Schumacher. And Arnold Schwarzegger's desire for cheesy lines probably didn't help.
But then there's Lost in Space. The only good part of that was Gary Oldman, and I bet you $100,000 that Oldman made up that character largely himself, giving him his odd philosophical desire for lying and chaos, and wrote most of his own lines.
Just a lot of bad movies. And I include A Beautiful Mind in that. Yes, the key conceit was cute; it was also not really original. (I also think I read that Nash didn't even have that type of hallucinatory psychological problem, so it was pure invention.)
Anyway, we are three or four years away from Ass: The Movie. Five tops.
