Decisions Desk 2016: Iowa Madness, Er, Caucus
Finally! Votes will be counted. Crazy idea, right?
Of course the Decision Desk site will have live results and the team will be calling both races. Also follow @DecisionDeskHQ on the twitters for updates throughout the night.
All caucus meetings start at 7 central. There’s no time limit on them so results will trickle in as they wind up across the state and are reported to the state parties.
At stake:
30 delegates on the GOP side (awarded proportionally to the overall vote, no 2nd tier events like last time where Ron Paul won most of the delegates despite finishing 3rd)
On the Democrat side Iowa has 52 delegates, most of which will awarded based on tonight’s vote via a convoluted formula.
The reality is the prize is…momentum and control of the narrative moving forward. That’s not as easy to measure as precisely as votes but everyone will try.
Things to look for:
Big turnout? Thought to favor Sanders and Trump
Average or so turnout? Candidates with the best organizations, Cruz and Clinton, should have a good night.
Rubio and the “is he or isn’t he surging?” question is the wildcard.
While your checking out the results, be sure to sign up for the Decision Desk Daily newsletter. It’s still on a free trial basis but that’s going to change soon. Get the free stuff while you can because…America.
