The NRA Is Often Worthwhile, And Always Hardworking [CBD]
Many people, even pro-freedom people like to bash the NRA. I am not a huge fan of them, because their single-mindedness can often lead to horrible things like supporting Harry Reid for reelection.
But they do the work in the trenches....hammering legislators who are on the fence with phone calls from constituents, threats of moving support to opponents, publicizing the backroom deals that often turn out to be anti-gun, etc.
Here is a recent example...from Thursday: Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. Sounds great, doesn't it?
Long-time Second Amendment opponent Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) offered a far-reaching amendment that would have given the U.S. Attorney General what amounted to a discretionary veto on gun sales to anyone "appropriately suspected" of having some connection to "terrorism." Anti-gun bureaucrats would have been empowered to deny Second Amendment rights based merely on their own "reasonable belief" concerning someone's present or future intentions.
It was defeated, along with another from our steadfast friend Joe Manchin....
So I will keep writing checks to the NRA, knowing that while they often irritate me, they are on our side.
