Crybullies & Narcissism
Lot of links in this Instapundit post by John Tierny, bringing together two reports: that narcissists get very aggressive when criticized, and that college-age American students show a high level of narcissistic traits.
Study 1 updates a nationwide meta-analysis of college students' scores on the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) and controls for campus (k = 107; N = 49,818). In Study 2, the authors examine NPI scores among the students on one university campus, the University of South Alabama, between 1994 and 2009 (N = 4,152). Both studies demonstrate significant increases in narcissism over time
That study finds that the increase in narcissistic indicators is most pronounced among young women -- who do seem to be the Maenads in this lunatic subculture, with their beta-male compatriots serving in subordinate, eunuch roles as their shieldbearers.
Speaking of crybullies, AG Lynch seems to be saying she'll prosecute speech that leads to violence directed at Muslims:
Gabe points out that it's not clear what she's talking about prosecuting: the actions that are allegedly incited by speech, or the speech itself? Well, as someone else noted, this is "subliterate" and therefore can bear either interpretation.
It seems to me she's talking about speech, though: because of course violent acts are prosecuted. They always have been. Therefore, if this statement can be said to have any meaning it all, she must be talking about the New News that she'll prosecute people for speaking.
More: Allah writes up the (intentionally?) vague statement and notes that, sure, actual direct incitement is a crime. But actual direct incitement requires an actual direct urging towards violence, and further, the prospect of lawbreaking must have a clear and present danger of actually happening.
Curiously, or maybe not so curiously, Mx. Lynch does not mention that the US will prosecute hate-clerics for inciting terrorist actions.
Oh well, I guess that slipped her mind.
