I am the literal worst at Dota. Like I don't know what I don't know and CBF to try and learn it. So many "Champions" or Heroes. Whatever. It is fun to watch and you can gather a bunch just by how excited the crowd and casters get.

So Dota 2. Dota 2 is Valve's MOBA. There's two sides. 5 v 5. A shitload of playable characters. It's all done on one map. I can't really explain all the different builds team combos etx etx. Each player has timed Spells and Ultimates so execution is absolutely key. It's all greek to me to guys. You could literally write a book about what I don't know about Dota. But High Level Play is fun to watch. Much Like EVO. I'm never going to be able to be decent at fighting games, but goddamn it I will watch the hell out of some SF4U or MarvelvCapcom.

So Anyways. The International (Which is the tournament Valve puts on) for Dota 2 had it's finals yesterday. It's been going all week and has been fun to watch. The Prize pool was even more insane than last year when it hit $10 million. This year $18 million. I'll embed some videos after the break. Congrats to the winners. Hopefully Evil Geniuses (The Last US/NA Team) can pull it off and come from the losers bracket and upset the two Chinese teams. Update: They Did Exactly that!

One thing I do like about Dota is that like Eve, there is a Meta to it, and it changes. For years "Chinese Dota" meant long long games and lots of farming. Not for the last two years. With teams like VG "Chinese Dota" has meant Attack Attack Attack. Big Team Fights and constant pressure. It has really set back teams that want to be strong in the mid to late game to devastating effect. Teams like EG have tended to need/want to farm and then parlay that into big team fights in the mid game. We'll see how it shakes out. Or already has because I'm writing this up while waiting for the matches to actually start. Update: EG Just Ownzoned CDEC in the team fights. Hopefully there's vids to post.

Big Plays from earlier in the day. ppd from EG baited and LGD bit hard. This lead to a total team wipeout including all the buy backs. That cost them that Game and the Match. Dudes bit hard and went on Tilt

Allright. So this is from the Final Game. This wasn't the last Team Fight of the Game but it was the one that really Sealed the deal for EG. They are calling it the $6 Million Dollar Slam. It really should have been a total team wipe. CEDC Got over confident and EG Punished. As Brad Shoemaker calls it, Dota is a Game of Throws. Small mistakes can turn the tables. This one basically cost them the Match. There was no coming back from it really, although they put up a great Team Fight in the end, no match. Hubris shall be punished.

This one has all the Team Fights from the final Game and the Award Ceremony. That Place was packed with 10,000 people, and IT WAS LOUD.

What I've been playing. I bought a "New" 3DS. So far I really like the second stick. It's not perfect. It's literally like one of those old Laptop nubs. It gets the job done for what I've used it on which has been Super Smash Brothers and Binding of Issac:Rebirth. This I do want to talk about.

Binding of Issac: Rebirth has been my Lunch game lately. I've really enjoyed playing it. It hits that perfect spot you want from a Handheld. Short play throughs (I die. Alot. But that's the way it's supposed to play). I had watched Kleppek stream this a bunch back in the day, and it's why I wanted to play it. This isn't a game for small kids but the potty humor would be right in the wheelhouse of 15 year old me. You can get this game pretty much everywhere. All the new consoles, Vita, "new" 3DS, Mac and PC.

As a whole, I wouldn't advocate buying the "New" 3DS over getting an XL for less money. There haven't been very many titles that require the hardware, and knowing the way Nintendo likes to throw niche handhelds under the bus that probably means there won't be many games that REQUIRE it. But if you are in the market for a handheld. It's good. I like it. As a note, if you are upgrading from an XL you'll need a Micro SD card verses the one in your XL. You will also need a new charge dock if you have one. Nintendo being the cheap fucks that they are do not include a charge cable with the "New" 3DS.

The one thing I would take a pause with on Nintendo's Handheld is that the DRM is all hardware based. If it gets stolen or your kid loses it, anything you bought through the Eshop is gone. Maybe you can talk them into letting you re-download them, but Nintendo has been a pain in the ass with this. I know mine probably isn't going to get stolen, so I'm totally fine with it. Teenager or kid? Tough call.

Eve? I really haven't played. I should have gone out on some fleets Saturday but I was watching The International. Maybe today. There's been a lot of ~Drama~ on the Forums and r/Eve about the new Sov mechanics. I can't speak from experience but I know many are annoyed with it. Perhaps it needs to be dialed in a bit. Maybe limit the kinds of ships that can actually Entosis Link. Who knows. It's in a weird place right now.

They came out with a neat Devblog about the poor way Aegis went out. The IT stuff is neat to read about.

The Bastion got one hell of a Super kill down in lowsec on Friday. I used to live out there when I was in Gents. These Russians would run Level 5 Missions with supers in lowsec and it was hard to catch them due to the game mechanics. This was pre-Phoebe but I spent many a Sunday in a Hic sitting on a Titan. I hope this guy was one of them. I know Jed was always out hunting those fuckers. Hell of a Kill mail even if it's a bit overvalued. Hope Jed is at Eve Vegas this year. First round is on me for all those Sundays waiting to kill those fuckers.
