Dyalann Roof, Race-Murderer and Terrorist, Captured
It's every bit as terrible as you first feared.
The feeling I have -- apart from shock and horror -- is shame. Shame that this creature looks anything at all like me, shame that there may be a few stray nucleotides in his envenomed heart that resemble my own.
When a vicious, cowardly outrage like this happens, a thinking man or woman has two options: To condemn the theatrical horror of the murder as any ethical person must, such as to to do one's utmost to dissuade any similarly-minded monsters from acting in bloody sympathy, or to make excuses for it, to talk about "root causes" and "legitimate grievances" and even the Crusades, to explain it as somehow, if not quite justified, as understandable.
I choose the former.
Race-hate massacre suspect CAPTURED: Gunman who "shot nine people dead" at historic South Carolina black church after telling them "you're taking over our country" is taken into custody by cops
Dylann Roof opened fire at the historic Emanuel AME church in Charleston, South Carolina around 9pm Wednesday, killing nine people - three male victims and six females
After fleeing from the scene, he was caught in Shelby, North Carolina on Thursday morning
It has emerged that Roof had entered the church around an hour before the shooting and had joined the bible study group before suddenly opening fire
He let one woman escape so she could tell the world what happened while a child survived by playing dead
Among the dead is 41-year-old Reverend Clementa Pinckney, pastor of the church and a South Carolina state senator who leaves behind a wife and two young daughters
Police Chief Gregory Mullen said he believed the shooting was a hate crime
The Department of Justice, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office have launched a hate crime investigation
...
The white gunman who allegedly shot dead nine people during a bible study meeting at an African-American church in South Carolina last night has been caught in North Carolina.
Dylann Storm Roof, who fled the 150-year-old Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston after the shooting, was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Shelby on Thursday morning following an hours-long manhunt.
Whenever there is a murder or outrage that crosses racial lines, there is understandable, and inevitable, tribal survival instinct that kicks in. A certain suspicion and hatred that attaches to the race from whom the horror originated.
Black people are going to be angry at white folks -- even if they hide it, they're going to be angry at white folks for what this bloody bastard did. And I won't jeer at this feeling. I understand it.
I would, however, reassure black folks that this ain't me, this ain't any of us (save a tiny fraction of racist, little-dicked losers), and that we grieve with you, and we share your sense of shock and revulsion at the nihilistic carnage.
And we too wish this creature to receive the Lord's justice, and not the Lord's mercy.
Cross Posted: Drew just posted his own post, below. I did not see that when I posted, and even if I had, I would have posted. I wanted to speak my own piece.
